Imran Reza Ansari (born 7 March 1972) is a Kashmiri politician and a Shia cleric, succeeding his father Iftikhar Hussain Ansari after the latter's death. He won elections from the Pattan constituency on PDP's ticket and was nominated as Minister of Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports. After 2019, he left PDP and joined PC People's Conference. In 2024 he lose a crucial election National Conference (NC) candidate Javaid Riyaz Bedar with 603 votes. Imran is the grandson of Molvi Jawad Ansari and also the nephew of Abid Hussain Ansari . [1] [2]
Imran Reza Ansari was born to Kashmir's influential Shia religious cleric Iftikhar Hussain Ansari on 7 March 1972. He is elder to his brother Irfan Reza Ansari and younger to his sister. Raza Ansari had his matriculation from Tyndale Biscoe School in Srinagar. He then went to Jamia Millia Islamia with arts as his subject. Later he had his masters from same institution, where he qualified master's degree in political science. [3]
After death of his father Iftikhar Hussain Ansari in 2014, Imran Reza Ansari was fielded by Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party at the Pattan constituency where his father served before. In 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election, Imran Reza Ansari won from his constituency with more than 14000+ votes. [4] After new government was formed by Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party, Imran Ansari was declared minister of Information Technology, Technical Education, Youth Service and Sports. [5] [6] He has also served as the president of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. [7] Ansari ended the three decade long term of Farooq Abdullah, when he was newly elected as president of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association on 16 July 2016. [7]
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was an Indian politician who served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir twice from November 2002 to November 2005 and from March 2015 until his death in January 2016. He held various positions, including minister of Tourism in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet and minister of Home Affairs in V. P. Singh's cabinet. Sayeed began his political career in the wing of the National Conference led by G. M. Sadiq, which later merged with the Indian National Congress. In 1987, he transitioned to the Janata Dal and subsequently founded the People's Democratic Party (PDP), a regional political party that remains influential in Jammu and Kashmir, currently led by his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti.

Elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir from 18 September to 1 October 2024 in 3 phases to elect its 90 members.
