Berlin-based Innovestment GmbH is one of the first crowdfunding platforms to be established in Germany (2011). By the end of 2017, 40 projects had been successfully implemented and a total capital of EUR 8 million brokered. Since the realignment of the company in 2019, small and medium-sized companies can raise capital on innovestment.eu in an uncomplicated and transparent manner. From this Innovestment develops broadly diversified investment projects with fixed terms and interest rates for private and institutional investors. Projects come from the fields of sustainability, innovative growth project financing and entrepreneurship.

The company was founded in 2011 as a spin-off of RWTH Aachen University by Filipe da Costa, Daniel Appelhoff, Alexander Rajko and Norbert Töpker. Christin Friedrich joined as a managing partner in 2012 and is CEO since 2014. Her mission is to democratize capital for real economic progress. [1] [2] [3]

The site is one of the first sites to offer crowd funding. Indiegogo allows people to solicit funds for an idea, charity, or start-up business. Indiegogo charges a 5% fee on contributions. This charge is in addition to Stripe credit card processing charges of 3% + $0.30 per transaction. Fifteen million people visit the site each month.

The Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, or JOBS Act, is a law intended to encourage funding of small businesses in the United States by easing many of the country's securities regulations. It passed with bipartisan support, and was signed into law by President Barack Obama on April 5, 2012. Title III, also known as the CROWDFUND Act, has drawn the most public attention because it creates a way for companies to use crowdfunding to issue securities, something that was not previously permitted. Title II went into effect on September 23, 2013. On October 30, 2015, the SEC adopted final rules allowing Title III equity crowdfunding. These rules went into effect on May 16, 2016; this section of the law is known as Regulation CF. Other titles of the Act had previously become effective in the years since the Act's passage.

Crowdfunding is a process in which individuals or groups pool money and other resources to fund projects initiated by other people or organizations "without standard financial intermediaries." Crowdfunded projects may include creative works, products, nonprofit organizations, supporting entrepreneurship, businesses, or donations for a specific purpose. Crowdfunding usually takes place via an online portal that handles the financial transactions involved and may also provide services such as media hosting, social networking, and facilitating contact with contributors. It has increased since the passage of the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act.

Sabina Jeschke is a German university professor for information sciences in mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University. As of 10 November 2017, she was named member of the management board of Deutschen Bahn AG for digitalization and technology. She is also the director of the Cybernetics Lab IMA/ZLW & IfU. In the summer semester of 2017, she is on sabbatical leave to develop her research in the area of artificial consciousness, and is involved in building a think tank "Strong Artificial Intelligence" at the Volvo Car Corporation in Göteborg. MicroVentures is an equity crowdfunding website that offers investments in early stage companies. It connects accredited investors with startups, businesses and services looking to raise funds or participate in select secondary market opportunities.

Crowdcube is a British investment crowdfunding platform, established by Darren Westlake and Luke Lang in 2011.

Invesdor is an international crowdfunding platform operated by several companies which make up the Invesdor Group. With headquarters in Berlin, Germany; Helsinki, Finland; Vienna, Austria and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Invesdor is one of Europe’s largest crowdfunding platforms and operates as an intermediary between companies seeking investment and investors. Invesdor’s low investment threshold aims to empower small investors to invest via their platform. As of May 2023, Invesdor has been able to connect over 170,000 investors with projects they see the potential in, collecting €438 million in pledges from them. Onevest, a New York–based investment crowdfunding site for startups that was acquired by Business Rockstars in April 2018, allowed entrepreneurs to raise capital from accredited investors. In July 2014, startups launching on Onevest had collectively raised over $66 million.

Good Shepherd Entertainment is a Dutch video game publisher based in Amsterdam. The company was founded in 2011 and opened its equity crowdfunding platform in September 2012. Gambitious' publishing label was opened in 2014, offering publishing services. In August 2017, Gambitious Digital Entertainment was rebranded Good Shepherd Entertainment whereas they ceased their crowdfunding activities and fully transitioned into being a publisher. Fig was a crowdfunding platform for video games. It launched in August 2015. Unlike traditional crowdfunding approaches like Kickstarter, where individuals can back a project to receive rewards, Fig used a mixed model that includes individual backing and the opportunity for uncredited investors to invest as to obtain a share of future revenues for successful projects. At the end of 2017, four projects had begun generating returns, returning 245% to Fig investors.

Beesfund is a Polish equity crowdfunding platform based in Warsaw, Poland. Managed by its eponymous company founded in 2012 by entrepreneur Arkadiusz Regiec, it is one of the first crowdfunding platforms in Poland, and Central and Eastern Europe. As of May 2020, 74 public offerings (issuances) were carried out on the platform, for a total amount of PLN 47M, collected by over 48,000 registered investors.

Karl-Heinz Petzinka is a German architect, and Rector of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He is known for office buildings in Düsseldorf and Berlin. He converted historic industrial buildings, and was responsible for the section architecture for the Ruhr.2010 project.
