The International Quran Recital Competition, Malaysia is the international Islamic Quran recital event that is held annually since 1961 in Malaysia. [1] [2] It is most populated international Quran competition all over the muslim world. [3] Sometimes it called internationally as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Competition. [3]

Contents

History

Tunku Abdul Rahman (first Malaysian prime minister) was a founder of the International Quran Recital Competition. [4] The program was started on 9 March 1961 at Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur and 7 countries took part in this competition including Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Sarawak and Malaya. In 1985, the competition was moved to the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC). [5] [6]

Syed Muhammad al Naquib bin Ali al-Attas is a Malaysian Muslim philosopher. He is one of the few contemporary scholars who is thoroughly rooted in the traditional Islamic sciences and studies theology, philosophy, metaphysics, history, and literature. A qāriʾ is a person who recites the Quran with the proper rules of recitation (tajwid).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tajwid</span> Rules governing pronunciation during recitation of the Quran

In the context of the recitation of the Quran, tajwīd is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation (Qira'at). In Arabic, the term tajwīd is derived from the verb جود, meaning enhancement or to make something excellent. Technically, it means giving every letter its right in reciting the Qur'an.

In Islam, Qirāʼah are different linguistic, lexical, phonetic, morphological and syntactical forms permitted with reciting the holy book of Islam, the Quran. Differences between Qiraʼat are slight and include varying rules regarding the prolongation, intonation, and pronunciation of words, but also differences in stops, vowels, consonants, and less frequently entire words. Qiraʼat also refers to the branch of Islamic studies that deals with these modes of recitation.

Muhammad Ayyub ibn Muhammad Yusuf ibn Sulaiman `Umar was a Saudi Arabian Imam, Qari, and Islamic scholar known for his recitation of the Quran. He was an Imam of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Medina, Saudi Arabia. He was also a faculty member of the Department of Tafsir in the Faculty of the Holy Qur'an and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Madinah and a member of the Scholarly Committee of the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran. His death occurred on 16 April 2016.

Maria Ulfah is an Indonesian qāriʾah and manager of the Central Institute for the Development of Quranic Recitation. She is the winner of two Indonesian national Qur'an recitation contests and is internationally recognized as one of the world's master reciters and teachers of recitation. She is also a lecturer at the Institute for the Study of Qur'an and at the National Islamic University in Indonesia, as well as the first woman to win an international Qur'an recitation award in Malaysia in 1980. She's considered an internationally significant figure in the field, and has been referred to as Southeast Asia's premier female reciter of the Qur'an.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary</span> Egyptian ḥāfiẓ, qāriʾ, and scholar (1917–1980)

Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil al-Hussary also known as Al-Hussary, was an Egyptian qāriʾ widely acclaimed for his accurate recitation of the Qur'an. Al-Hussary committed the entire Qur'an to memory by age 8 and started reciting at public gatherings by age 12. In 1944, Al-Hussary won Egypt Radio's Qu'ran Recitation competition which had around 200 participants, including veterans like Muhammad Rifat. The quadrumvirate of El Minshawy, Abdul Basit, Mustafa Ismail, and Al-Hussary are generally considered the most important and famous qurrāʾ of modern times to have had an outsized impact on the Islamic world.

Abu Bakr ‘Aasim Ibn Abi al-Najud al-'Asadi, commonly known as ‘Aasim ibn Abi al-Najud, was, according to Islamic tradition, one of the seven primary transmitters of the Qira'at, or variant readings of the Qur'an. Of Arab origin, his method of reciting the Qur'an as transmitted by Hafs is the most common and popular way of reciting the holy book in the Muslim world in general.

Qari Muammar Zainal Asyikin sometimes shortened Muammar ZA or Muammar Za is a popular senior Qari or Quran reciter and Hafiz from Indonesia well known nationally and internationally. He won Qur'an Recitation Contests known as "Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran" ("MTQ") during the 1980s in Indonesia and abroad. His talent was recognised during childhood in his hometown Pemalang where he participated and won a local children's Quran Competition in 1962 when he was just 7 years of age H. Muammar, a national reciter, was renowned internationally for his breath capacity.

Mu'min Ainul Mubarak is an Indonesian reciter of Quran and Hafiz from Tasikmalaya.

Qari Syed Sadaqat Ali, is a Pakistani qari. He is well known for his program AlQuran that was especially aimed to help children with their reading and pronunciation skills of the Quran. The program was a huge success on the Pakistan Television Corporation channel (PTV) and was replayed many times. One of his teachers was the renowned Sheikh Abdul Basit 'Abd us-Samad of Egypt.

The 2017 Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah madrasa fire, which occurred at around 5:10 am on 14 September 2017, where a fire broke out at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah madrasa in Kampung Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur resulted in 23 of the madrasa residents killed, while five others were reportedly injured.

Shahzada Husain Burhanuddin, also known as Husain Mufaddal Saifuddin, is the third and youngest son of Mufaddal Saifuddin, the current incumbent of the office of the 53rd Da'i al-Mutlaq. He is a Qāriʾ and an honorary member of Naqabāt Qurrāʾ al-Quran in Cairo. He is currently the Chairman of Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust.

Noreen Mohammad Siddiq was a Sudanese imam who was known for his recitations of the Quran. He was an imam of the Khartoum Grand Mosque, the Sayeda Sanhori Mosque, the Al-Nour Mosque, and other famous mosques within the capital city of Sudan, Khartoum.

Qatar Tijan an Nur International Quran Competition and Award is an International Quranic competition and award organized by Jeem Television in Qatar. Children aged only 9-13 can participate in this program. The competition has attracted participants from different countries, turning it into one of the most important Quran recitation competitions in the world. The event hosts Quran recitation competitions in various ways. The contest aims to communicate and instill supreme and moral values in children, while promoting the correct use of classical Arabic and encouraging children to study and recite the Qur’an. A committee consisting of eminent scholars, and scholars specializing in the study and recitation of the Qur'an will evaluate the readers based on the rules of vowels, the quality of words and performance and the type of recitation.

Libya International Holy Quran Memorizing and Reciting Competition is one of the biggest festive for Al-Quran reading, memorizing and reciting in all muslim world. About more than 50 country attending to this festive. This programme held by Libya’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs ministry. The event hosts Quran recitation competitions in many ways. The contest aims to communicate and raise supreme and moral ethics in people. It also promoting the correct use of classical Arabic and encouraging children to study and recite the Qur’an. This programme was held in Al-Raied mosque, at city of Misurata.

Egypt International Holy Quran Competition is an international Quran recitation and telawat competition. This international competition is organized by the Egyptian government every year according to Hijri New Year. Since 1993, this event has been regularly organized in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, with the active participation of at least 66 countries. The event is organized by the Ministry of Religion of Egypt and coordinated by Al-Azhar University.
