In 1984 he served as the flag bearer for Romania at the opening ceremony. In 1975 he set a team world record at 2370 points and in 1977 equaled the individual world record at 598 points.
Ion Dumitrescu was a Romanian sports shooter. He competed in the individual trap event at the 1960, 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics and placed 1st, 5th, 11th and 30th, respectively. At the world championships he won bronze medals in team skeet in 1958 and in individual trap in 1961.
Ion Monea was a Romanian amateur boxer. He competed as a middleweight in 1960–64 and won a bronze medal at the 1960 Olympics and a silver medal at the 1963 European Championships, placing fifth at the 1964 Olympics. He then moved up to the light-heavyweight division and won three more medals, at the 1967 and 1969 European championships and 1968 Olympics, losing on all three occasions to Danas Pozniakas. He did not fight Pozniakas in 1968 though, as he had a broken nose from his previous bout and withdrew from the Olympic final.
Ion Draica is a retired middleweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Romania. He won the world title in 1978, the European title in 1977–1979 and an Olympic gold medal in 1984.
Ion Baciu is a retired bantamweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Romania. He won the world title in 1967 and a silver medal at the 1968 Olympics, placing sixth in 1972.
Ion Cernea is a retired bantamweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Romania. Between 1960 and 1965 he earned two Olympic and two world championship medals, winning the world title in 1965. He retired the same year to become a wrestling coach and international referee, and was present in this capacity at all major international wrestling competitions between 1972 and 1988.
