Iowa State University College of Engineering is one of eight colleges of Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa.

The University was founded in 1858 as the Iowa Agricultural College with classes in agriculture and mechanical arts, now called engineering. [1] [2] In 1898, the school was renamed as "Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts—Science with Practice", with divisions in agriculture, veterinary science, engineering, and science and philosophy. Iowa State took on its current name in 1959 and the College of Engineering was formally established at that time.

The College of Engineering at Iowa State hosts the largest engineering career fairs in the country in which more than 440 companies participate in each fair. [2] The college has a high placement rate of 98%. [2]

Ranking

The College of Engineering has consistently been ranked among the top engineering schools and is the 7th largest engineering school in the United States. [2] According to US News the undergraduate engineering program is ranked 37th (tied) in the country in 2016 overall and 21 (tied) among public Institutions nationally. [4] The 2019 graduate program is ranked 41st (tied) overall and 20th (tied) among the public universities in US News. [5] Business Insider ranked Iowa State as one of the top engineering schools in the country for landing key jobs in Silicon Valley. [6] The Wall Street Journal ranked Iowa State engineering the 14th best engineering program according to employers in the entire nation. [7]

The Cockrell School of Engineering is one of the eighteen colleges within the University of Texas at Austin. It has more than 8,000 students enrolled in eleven undergraduate and thirteen graduate programs. The college is ranked 10th in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities, 9th nationally for undergraduate programs and 6th nationally for graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report. Nine of the ten undergraduate programs and seven of the eleven graduate programs are ranked in the top ten nationally. Annual research expenditures are over $180 million and the school has the fourth-largest number of faculty in the National Academy of Engineering.

The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee is a doctoral-degree granting public research university that consists of 14 colleges and schools, and 70 academic centers, institutes and laboratory facilities. The Virginia Tech College of Engineering is the academic unit that manages engineering research and education at Virginia Tech. The College can trace its origins to 1872, and was formally established in 1903. Today, The College of Engineering is the largest academic unit of Virginia Tech and has 14 departments of study. Its undergraduate program was ranked 4th and its graduate program was ranked 30th among doctoral-granting universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2018. In 2014–15, the College of Engineering consisted of 10,059 students. The current dean is Dr. Julia Ross.
