Before Eurovision

National Song Contest 1986

The final was held on 30 March 1986 at the Radio Telefís Éireann Studios in Dublin, and was hosted by radio and television presenter Mike Murphy. Eleven regional juries across Ireland selected the winning song, "You Can Count on Me", performed by the group Luv Bug and composed by Kevin Sheerin.

At Eurovision

Luv Bug performed twelfth on the night of the contest, following Israel and preceding Belgium. At the close of the voting the song had received 96 points, placing 4th in a field of 20 competing countries. [1] This high placing was the third of five straight top ten finishes, and was the run-up to Ireland's win in Brussels the next year.

Eurovision Song Contest 1986 International song competition

The Eurovision Song Contest 1986 was the 31st edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It was held in Bergen, Norway, following the country's victory at the 1985 contest with the song "La det swinge" by Bobbysocks! Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), the contest was held at Grieghallen on 3 May 1986 and was hosted by previous Norwegian contestant Åse Kleveland.

The United Kingdom participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1986 with its entry "Runner in the Night" performed by the group Ryder. The song was chosen through the A Song for Europe national final which consisted of eight songs in 1986. At the Eurovision Song Contest 1986 held in Bergen, Norway, Ryder and the song placed seventh with 72 points.

Eurovision Young Musicians 2000 Music competition edition

The Eurovision Young Musicians 2000 was the tenth edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians, held at Grieg Hall in Bergen, Norway on 15 June 2000. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), musicians from eight countries participated in the televised final. A total of eighteen countries took part in the competition. All participants performed a classical piece of their choice accompanied by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Simone Young. Seven countries returned to the contest, while Croatia, Cyprus and Sweden withdrew from the 2000 contest.

Belgium participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, with Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT) having selected the 52nd Belgian entry for Eurovision. Tom Dice was selected by VRT to represent Belgium at the Contest, held in Oslo, Norway in May 2010, performed the song "Me and My Guitar", written by Dice, Jeroen Swinnen and Ashley Hicklin. It ended 1st in the Semi-final 1, and brought Belgium's first ever qualification since the introduction of semi-finals. The song placed 6th in the grand final, marking the first top 10 result for Belgium since 2003 and for a Flemish act since 1977, and also at the time became the most successful entry brought by VRT since the introduction of semi-finals.
