The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot is a railroad station located between Suffolk and Lowell Streets in Ironwood, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. [1]
The Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western Railroad line was laid through what is now Ironwood in 1884. At the time there were almost no people in the settlement, but the railroad and the surrounding virgin timber made the city a boomtown, which swelled to 11,000 people by 1892. [2] The railroad had originally constructed a wood-frame building for use as a depot in Ironwood, [3] but it quickly proved inadequate. In 1892, the company built this brick replacement [4] at a cost of $18,000. [2] The Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western became part of the Chicago and North Western Railway soon after. [4] The station was used for passenger traffic until 1970, and freight until 1981. [5] In 1983, the former depot was purchased by the Downtown Ironwood Development Authority. [2] It currently houses the Ironwood Area Historical Society. [5]
The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Depot in Ironwood is a red brick and sandstone structure [3] with a one-block long platform. [5] It has a multi-level hipped roof covered with slate. [3] The depot consists of a single-story main depot with a small second story space in the center and a separate, single-story baggage unit with a small modern addition. The two portions are joined with a single roof and measure approximately 175 feet by 28 feet. [2]
The two buildings have vertically laid brown sandstone slabs on the bottom of the walls, rising to a height of about 5-1/2 feet. The walls are brick above. The depot's lower story has simple rectangular doorways and windows with one-over-one double hung windows. A triple-window bay which once housed ticket windows projects from the center of the trackside facade. The small second floor has three round-head window with sandstone sills, deeply recessed between sandstone columns with foliated capitals. The projecting eaves of the main hipped roof are supported by large curved wooden brackets. [2]
The interior of the main depot contains a train dispatcher's quarters and locker room on one side, a ticket office in the center, and a passenger waiting room and rest rooms on the other side. The walls are plastered and painted white, and the floors are wooden. Many of the interior details are original, including the wainscoting, window trim, baseboards, and ceiling molding. The second story originally housed a railroad agent's office and small store room. The baggage structure has three rooms, one of which is the small addition. [2]
Dowagiac is a train station in Dowagiac, Michigan, served by Amtrak, the United States' railroad passenger system. The station was built by the Michigan Central Railroad in 1902, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

The Milwaukee Depot in Missoula, Montana, was built by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad in 1910 as part of the railroad's transcontinental "Pacific Extension".
The Coudersport and Port Allegany Railroad Station is a railroad station in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It was built by the Coudersport and Port Allegany Railroad in 1899 and opened in January 1900 during the lumber industry boom in Potter County. When the lumber ran out, the railroad's business decreased and in 1964 the line and station were purchased by the Wellsville, Addison and Galeton Railroad. The station was abandoned in 1970 and was unoccupied until 1975, when the borough of Coudersport purchased it. The borough restored it and put a new roof on, then used the building for office space. The station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 21, 1976.
The Rock Island Depot is located in Enid, Garfield County, Oklahoma and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979.
Bemidji station is a former Great Northern Railway depot in Bemidji, Minnesota, United States. It opened in 1913, replacing a wooden structure built in 1898. It was the last depot commissioned by railroad magnate James J. Hill.
Mount Clemens station is a historic railroad depot located at 198 Grand Street in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Thomas Edison learned telegraphy at this station in his youth. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 as the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, Mount Clemens Station and designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1973. It is now operated as the Michigan Transit Museum.
The Orfordville Depot was built in 1886 by the Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad and served as a de facto social center for the tiny community of Orfordville, Wisconsin for decades. In 1988 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Greenback Depot is a former railroad station located in Greenback, Tennessee, United States. Built in 1914 by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N), the depot served rail freight and passengers traveling in and out of the Greenback area until 1954. Restored for use as a community events center by Ronald Edmondson in the early 2010s, the depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 in recognition of its role in the area's transportation history.
The Sayre Rock Island Depot is a historic railroad station located at 106 E. Poplar Ave. in Sayre, Oklahoma. The depot was built in 1927 along the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad ; it replaced Sayre's original Rock Island station, which opened outside the town limits in 1901. The new station is just two blocks north of downtown Sayre. It accommodated the increased traffic the line had gained in the early 1920s; it also helped the railroad compete with the recently designated U.S. Route 66. The station building was built from and has an Italian Renaissance Revival design. Its design resembles two other surviving Rock Island stations in Oklahoma: the Hobart Depot and the Walters Depot.
The Grand Trunk Western station was a historic railroad station in Lansing, Michigan. The station was listed as a Michigan State Historic Site in 1978, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad-Grafton Station, also known as Grafton Depot, is a historic structure located in Grafton, Iowa, United States. The town of Grafton was surveyed and platted by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad in 1878, and the depot was completed by the railroad the following year. The railroad was important to the economic life of the town as it was the main source for receiving consumer goods and selling agricultural products, which was the area's primary industry. The depot closed in October 1974, one of the last small town depots to close in Iowa. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The former depot was refurbished and it now houses a local history museum.
The Toledo and Ohio Central Railroad Station, today named Station 67, is a union meeting space and event hall located in Franklinton, near Downtown Columbus, Ohio. Built by the Toledo and Ohio Central Railroad from 1895 to 1896, it served as a passenger station until 1930. It served as an office and shelter for Volunteers of America from 1931 to 2003, and has been the headquarters of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 67, a firefighters' union, since 2007. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. During its history, the building has experienced fires and floods, though its relatively few owners have each made repairs and renovations to preserve the building's integrity. The building is the last remaining train station in Columbus.
Harbor Springs is a depot located at 111 West Bay Street in Harbor Springs, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000 as the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad Harbor Springs Depot. As of 2016, the building houses the Depot Club and Restaurant.

The Holly Union Depot is a former train station located at 223 South Broad Street in Holly, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. It sits at the junction of tracks which are now owned by CSX Transportation and Canadian National Railway.
The South Milwaukee Passenger Station is a historic railroad station located at 1111 Milwaukee Ave., South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The station was built in 1893 for the Chicago & Northwestern Railway replacing a frame depot from 1885. Architect Charles Sumner Frost designed the Romanesque station. The depot, located on the east (southbound) platform, included ladies and gentlemen's waiting rooms, restrooms, a ticket office, freight office, train dispatcher's office, and two large rooms for baggage, express, and storage.
