Istrabenz is a Slovenian holding company, one of the largest in Slovenia with a total of 73 companies under its management.

A holding company is a company that owns other companies' outstanding stock. A holding company usually does not produce goods or services itself; rather, its purpose is to own shares of other companies to form a corporate group. Holding companies allow the reduction of risk for the owners and can allow the ownership and control of a number of different companies.

Slovenia, officially the Republic of Slovenia, is a country located in southern Central Europe at a crossroads of important European cultural and trade routes. Istrabenz entered the Ljubljana Stock Exchange in 1997. [1]

Ljubljana Stock Exchange or LJSE is a stock exchange located in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It is Slovenia's only stock exchange. The exchange trades shares of Slovenian companies, as well as bonds and commercial papers. The only stockholder of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange is Zagreb Stock Exchange.

Istrabenz financed the growth of Openad until the holding ran out of cash in 2008. [2]

OpenAd.net was an online marketplace for buying and selling creative ideas for use in advertising, marketing and design. The core of its services was giving idea buyers direct access to a variety of unpublished ideas offered to them by over 11,500 freelance "creatives" from 125 countries worldwide.

From 2002 to 2009, the company was headed by Igor Bavčar, Slovenia's former interior minister. [3] In September 2009, Igor Bavčar was detained on suspicions of corruption and money laundering while he was head of Istrabenz. [4]

Igor Bavčar is a Slovenian politician and manager. He rose to prominence during the Slovenian spring, when he served as chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, the largest independent civil society movement in the Socialist Republic of Slovenia. He was the Slovenian Minister of Interior during the Slovenian war of independence in June 1991, and coordinated Slovenian defence forces together with the Minister of Defence Janez Janša. He remained one of the most influential political figures in Slovenia until 1992, and remained an important member of the political establishment until 2002, when he left politics to engage in the private sector.

In July 2010, Istrabenz sold major food manufacturer Droga Kolinska to Atlantic Grupa for €382 million. [5] [6]

Atlantic Grupa d.d. is a Croatian multinational company whose business operations include the production, development, sales and distribution of consumer goods with simultaneous market presence in over 40 countries around the world.

In September 2015, Istrabenz sold the Kempinski Palace Portorož for $25 million. [7] In March 2016, Istrabenz Turizem sold the Grand Hotel Adriatic in Opatija to Croatian company Teri-trgovina as part of a disinvestment program. [8]

Kempinski Palace Portorož, until 2008 known as Palace Hotel, is a five-star deluxe hotel in Portorož, a settlement on the Adriatic coast in southwestern Slovenia. It is the only deluxe hotel in Slovenia.

Opatija Town in Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Croatia

Opatija is a town in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in western Croatia. The traditional seaside resort on the Kvarner Gulf is known for its Mediterranean climate and its historic buildings reminiscent of the Austrian Riviera.

In June 2016, Istrabenz sold the remaining 51% it held in Istrabenz plini (gas subsidiary) to Italian SIAD. [9]

Slovenia is situated at the crossroads of central and southeast Europe, touching the Alps and bordering the Adriatic Sea. Koper is the fifth largest city in Slovenia. Located in the southwestern part of the country, approximately five kilometres south of the border with Italy and 20 kilometers from Trieste, Koper is the largest coastal city in the country. It is bordered by the satellite towns of Izola and Ankaran, and anchors the Istrian region. With a unique ecology and biodiversity, it is considered an important national natural resource. It is the oldest recorded urban settlement in Slovenia. The city's Port of Koper is the major contributor to the economy of the eponymous city municipality. With only one percent of Slovenia having a coastline, the influence that the Port of Koper also has on tourism was a factor in Ankaran deciding to leave the municipality in a referendum in 2011 to establish its own. The city is a destination on a number of Mediterranean cruising lines. In 2016, the city expects 65 cruise ship arrivals with the season spanning from March to December. Koper is the main urban centre of the Slovenian Istria, with a population of about 25,000.

Piran is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. It is one of the three major towns of Slovenian Istria. The town has much medieval architecture, with narrow streets and compact houses. Piran is the administrative centre of the local area and one of Slovenia's major tourist attractions. Until the mid-20th century, Italian was the dominant language, but was replaced by Slovene as demographics shifted.

Portorož is a Slovenian Adriatic seaside resort and spa town located in the Municipality of Piran in southwestern Slovenia. Its modern development began in the late 19th century with the vogue for the first health resorts. In the early 20th century Portorož became one of the grandest seaside resorts in Adriatic, along with Abbazia, Lido and Grado, then as part of the Austrian Littoral. It is now one of Slovenia's major tourist areas. Located in the centre is the Hotel Palace, once one of the most important resorts for the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, and currently one of the finest hotels between Venice and Dubrovnik.

Portorož Airport is the smallest of three international airports in Slovenia. It is located near the village of Sečovlje, 6 km (3.7 mi) south of Portorož, and less than 300 m (980 ft) from the Croatian border. The airport was opened on 27 September 1962. In addition to Portorož, the airport serves a number of other tourist destinations in the region, including Piran, Izola, Koper in Slovenia, Trieste in Italy and Umag in Croatia.

European route E751 road in Europe

The European route E751, or E751, as defined by the Declaration on the Construction of Main International Traffic Arteries of 1975, and subsequent documents which amended the treaty, is an east-west Class-B branching European road route. Originating in Rijeka, Croatia, where it diverges from European route E61 before passing through the Kanfanar interchange, the route connects Pula, Rovinj, Poreč and Umag in Croatia with Koper in Slovenia. The route provides a high-performance road link in Istria and Slovenian Littoral. Unlike most routes, the E751 centers on the Kanfanar interchange and has three arms, each extending to Rijeka, Pula and Koper. The total length of the route, including all the route arms, is 160 km (99 mi).

Gravisi–Barbabianca Mansion

Gravisi–Barbabianca Mansion is a Baroque mansion in Koper, a port town in southwestern Slovenia. It was built in 1710. It was the family seat of the Gravisi family, who held the title of the Marquis of Pietrapelosa. Today it is the home of a music school.
