The Italian Footballers' Association (Italian: Associazione Italiana Calciatori), also referred to by the acronym AIC, is the association for footballers in Italy. It was established in 1968 and currently has 4,500 members, of which 2,500 are professionals. [1] [2]

The aims of the AIC are to protect, improve and negotiate the conditions, rights and status of all professional players by collective bargaining agreements. [2]

History

The AIC was founded in Milan, on 3 July 1968. Among the charter members there were notable footballers, such as Giacomo Bulgarelli, Sandro Mazzola, Gianni Rivera, Ernesto Castano, Giancarlo De Sisti, Giacomo Losi and Sergio Campana. The latter, who is also a lawyer and had retired from football a year before, was appointed president of the association. [1] Campana held the position for 43 years, before announcing his intention to step down in April 2011. [3] Former footballer Damiano Tommasi was officially appointed as the new president on 9 May 2011. [4]

Gran Galà del Calcio

Since 1997, AIC has held the Gran Galà del Calcio (formerly the Oscar del Calcio until 2011), a series of awards given to the best players, the best coach and the best referee of Serie A every season. [5]

Giacomo Bulgarelli Italian footballer

Giacomo Bulgarelli was an Italian international footballer who played as a midfielder. Regarded as one of Italy's greatest ever midfielders, Bulgarelli spent his entire club career with Italian side Bologna, where he also served as the team's captain; an important figure with the club, he is the team's record all-time appearance holder, and won the Serie A title with the Bolognese side in 1964, among other trophies. Following his retirement, he had a brief spell in America with the Hartford Bicentennials in 1975, and later also had a successful career as football commentator in the 90s.

Serie A Young Footballer of the Year

The Serie A Young Footballer of the Year was a yearly award organized by the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) given to the footballer to the under-24 footballer who had been considered to have performed the best over the previous Serie A season. It was organised by the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) and is part of the Oscar del Calcio awards event.

The Serie A Coach of the Year AIC is a yearly award organized by the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) given to the coach who has been considered to have performed the best over the previous Serie A season. Giacomo Losi

Giacomo Losi is an Italian former football manager and player, who played as a defender. He spent his entire professional career, from 1955 to 1969, with Italian club A.S. Roma. Most of his family now resides in Boston, Massachusetts USA, with his nephew Michael J. Losi a budding USA Men's National Team Star.

Ernesto Castano is a former Italian football player from Cinisello Balsamo in the Province of Milan, who played as a defender. Throughout his club career he played for Legnano, Triestina, and Juventus, winning domestic titles at the latter club. At international level, he was a member of the Italy national football team that won UEFA Euro 1968.
