The Professional Footballers' Association Scotland (PFA Scotland) is the association for professional footballers in Scotland. It was known as the Scottish Professional Footballers' Association (SPFA), but that organisation was dissolved and replaced by PFA Scotland in 2007. [1] PFA Scotland is affiliated to the (English) Professional Footballers' Association [1] and the worldwide union FIFPro. [2] The SPFA used to be affiliated to the GMB union. [3]

As of 2021, Fraser Wishart (chief executive) and Tony Higgins (president) were two of the principal officers of the organisation, while former players Craig Beattie and Chris Higgins were among the administrative staff, [4] with Stuart Lovell among its former employees. [5] [6] Active players who have served as chairman of the committee include Jack Ross, [7] [8] John Rankin [9] and Liam Craig. [10] [11]

Each year it presents the Players' Player of the Year, the Young Player of the Year, and the Manager of the Year awards. [12] [13]

PFA Scotland Players Player of the Year Award

The PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the season in Scottish football. The award has been presented since the 1977–78 season and the winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the players' trade union, the Professional Footballers' Association Scotland. The award was formerly known as the Scottish Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year, but was renamed after the SPFA became affiliated with the (English) Professional Footballers' Association and rebranded PFA Scotland.

PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Award

The PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, formerly known as the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year, is named at the end of every Scottish football season. The members of the Professional Footballers' Association Scotland vote on which of its young members played the best football in the previous year. The award was first given in 1978, to Graeme Payne. The Bulgarian international Stiliyan Petrov was the first non-Scottish player to win the award, when he did so in 2001.

Professional Footballers Australia Trade union

The Professional Footballers Australia (PFA), formerly the Australian Soccer Players' Association, is an Australian trade union affiliated with the Australian Council of Trade Unions that represents professional male, female and elite junior soccer players.

The Fédération Internationale des Associations de Footballeurs Professionnels, generally referred to as FIFPRO, is the worldwide representative organisation for 65,000 professional footballers. FIFPRO, with its global headquarters in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, is made up of 67 national players' associations. In addition, there are five candidate members and eight observers. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have the most appearances in the FIFPRO World 11 with 15 each, whereas Sergio Ramos has had 11 appearances occupying the second place.

The Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland(PFAI) is the representative body for professional and semi-professional footballers in Republic of Ireland. Players from all nationalities in the League of Ireland are represented, not just Irish players. It is a member of FIFPro; the international body for similar organisations, and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. The PFAI's current chairman is Brendan Clarke.

Jack Ross (footballer, born 1976)

John James Ross is a Scottish professional football coach and former player.

John Rankin is a Scottish former footballer who played as a central midfielder for Ross County, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Hibernian, Dundee United, Falkirk, Queen of the South and Clyde. Rankin also played once for a Scotland B team, in 2006.

Brendan Schwab is an Australian sports administrator, trade union official and lawyer, specialising in labour law, human rights law, collective bargaining and dispute resolution, particularly in professional team sports. On 1 July 2015, he was appointed the Executive Director of the World Players Association, based in Nyon, Switzerland as an autonomous sector of UNI Global Union.

Liam Craig is a Scottish professional footballer who plays for Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone. He is an attack minded creative midfield player who can operate on the left side of midfield or in a central position.

SFWA Footballer of the Year Award

The Scottish Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the season in Scottish football. The award has been presented since the 1964–65 season, and the winner is selected by a vote amongst the members of the Scottish Football Writers' Association (SFWA), which comprises over 100 football journalists based throughout Scotland. The first winner was Celtic's Billy McNeill, and the first non-Scottish winner was Mark Hateley of Rangers in 1994. Seven players have won the award on more than one occasion, the most recent being Leigh Griffiths, who won his second award in the 2015–16 season.

PFA Scotland Manager of the Year Award

The PFA Scotland Manager of the Year is awarded by the Professional Footballers' Association Scotland to the football manager in Scottish football who is seen to have been the best manager over the previous season. The award replaced, and is considered a direct continuation of, the SPFA Manager of the Year award which was awarded just once, in the 2006–07 season to Celtic boss Gordon Strachan.

Fraser Wishart is a Scottish former professional footballer, former Secretary of the Scottish Professional Footballers' Association, and current chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association Scotland. He is also an occasional radio and television commentator.

Anthony Higgins is a Scottish former professional footballer.

The PFA Footballer of the Year Awards is an annual award ceremony created to formally recognise the most outstanding Australian footballers playing abroad or in the A-League, as well as foreign players playing in the A-League. The inaugural ceremony took place on 11 June 2009 in Sydney.

Stuart Armstrong Scottish footballer

The Professional Footballers' Association Scotland Team of the Year is an annual award given to a set of 44 footballers in the four national tiers of the Scottish football league system, who are seen to be deserving of being named in a "Team of the Year". The award is compiled by the members of the players' trade union, Professional Footballers' Association Scotland, with the winners then being voted for by the other players in their respective divisions. The award was instituted in the 2006–07 season. In that first season, the award was voted for by the managers in each division.

Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia

Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia is a representative organisation for professional football players in Malaysia, established in 2009. It is affiliated with the worldwide professional football players organisation, FIFPro, since 22 October 2013. It was registered with the Malaysia Sports Commissioner's Office on 4 August 2014.
