Iulian Bulai (born 1987) is a Romanian Center Right-wing politician. [1] [2] He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. Since June 2022, deputy Iulian Bulai is the Chairperson of the ALDE Group at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council Of Europe. [3] [4]
Bulai was born in 1987 in Neamț County, Romania. [5]
He completed his education at the Franciscan High School. [5] In 2008, Bulai enrolled at the Einar Granum Art School in Oslo, Norway. [5] He later transferred to the National Academy of Arts in Oslo and studied there from 2009 to 2012, earning a BA in visual arts. [5] In 2011, he participated in an Erasmus Programme at the Academy of Arts in Lisbon. [5]
In 2012, Bulai began his master's studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing before continuing his education at the National Academy of Arts in Oslo. [5] In 2014, he started a second master's degree with a focus on international relations and cultural diplomacy. [5] The first semester of this program was undertaken at the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin, while the second semester was conducted in Siena, Italy. [5]
In 2016, Bulai returned to Romania and became the founding president of the Neamț County Save Romania Union (USR) chapter. [6] Subsequently, he participated in the parliamentary elections. [7] From the beginning of his political activity, Iulian Bulai campaigned for the importance of building the A7 (Ploiești – Pașcani) and A8 (Târgu-Mureș – Iași – Ungheni) highways, which would connect the region of Moldova with the other historical regions of Romania. Bulai was a liaison in terms of communication and interaction between civil society and central authorities. [8] [9] [10] [11] As the USR Neamț's primary candidate, he was elected to the Parliament of Romania.
During his 2016–2020 term, Bulai served on multiple committees. [12] He was part of the Culture, Arts, and Mass Media committee; the Equal Opportunities for Women and Men committee, where he served as vice-president until September 2019; and the European Affairs committee from September 2019 onwards. [12] In addition, he held roles as the USR parliamentary group's deputy leader from February to December 2020 and served as the Chamber of Deputies' secretary between September 2018 and February 2019. [12] He put forward 151 legislative proposals, with significant ones addressing adoption laws, the Magnitsky law, [13] and the discontinuation of certain state-funded institutions. [12] [14]
In January 2019, Bulai joined the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and became a member of its Monitoring Commission. [15] By September 2019, he was elected vice-president of the Union Save Romania party. [16]
In the parliamentary elections on December 6, 2020, Bulai was the lead candidate for USR PLUS in Neamț county. He secured a subsequent term in the Romanian Parliament. [17] [18] Currently, in his term, he leads the Committee on Culture, Arts, and Mass Media and serves as a member of the Committee on European Affairs. [19]
His report led, in October 2023, to a resolution significant for Ukraine and Europe's history. PACE condemned Russia's ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, stressing the importance of upholding Council of Europe standards and calling for "a united front to stop the aggression and win a peace which is comprehensive, just and lasting, ensuring that the rule of law prevails over the rule of force." The National Liberal Party is a Christian democratic and socially conservative political party in Romania. Re-founded in mid January 1990, shortly after the Revolution of 1989 which culminated in the fall of communism in Romania, it claims the legacy of the major political party of the same name, active between 1875 and 1947 in the Kingdom of Romania. Based on this historical legacy, it often presents itself as the first formally constituted political party in the country and the oldest of its kind from the family of European liberal parties as well.

The unification of Moldova and Romania is a popular concept and hypothetical unification in the two countries that began during the Revolutions of 1989. The Romanian Revolution in 1989 and the independence of Moldova in 1991 further contributed to the development of a movement for the unification of the two Romanian-speaking countries. The question of reunification is recurrent in the public sphere of the two countries, often as a speculation, both as a goal and a danger. Though historically Romanian support for unification was high, a March 2022 survey following the Russian invasion of Ukraine indicated that only 11% of Romania's population supports an immediate union, while over 42% think it is not the right moment.
The A7 motorway, also known as the Ploiești–Siret Motorway or the Moldavia Motorway, is a partially built motorway in Romania, that upon completion will link Ploiești to the north-eastern part of the country, partly along the Pan-European Corridor IX. It will run along the route: Buzău, Focșani, Bacău, Roman, Pașcani, and Suceava, connecting to Ukraine's M19 highway near Siret.
The Save Romania Union is a liberal political party in Romania that sits on the centre to centre-right of the political spectrum. It is currently the third largest party in the Parliament of Romania with 41 deputies and 20 senators, and a fifth at local level nationwide, after the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) and the People's Movement Party (PMP), two smaller centre-right political parties in the country.

The Party of Liberty, Unity and Solidarity was a pro-European, liberal political party established on 26 October 2018, whose president was Dacian Cioloș, former Prime Minister of Romania from 2015 until 2017, elected on 26 January 2019. The party had its origin in the Movement Romania Together (MRÎ), a project which they gave up due to the setting up delay in court. The party merged in 2021 with the Save Romania Union (USR) with which it has been in a political alliance called 2020 USR-PLUS Alliance from 2019 to 2021, then formally activating as a sole, unified party known as USR PLUS.
Nicolae-Daniel Popescu is a Romanian politician currently serving as a Member of Parliament in the Chamber of Deputies. He is a vice-chair of the Committee for Romanian Communities Living Abroad, and a member of the Committee for Defence, Public Order, and National Security. Popescu is also a vice-leader of the Save Romania Union (USR) parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies.
A consultative referendum took place in Romania on 26 May 2019, on the same day as the European Parliament elections, about whether to prohibit amnesties and pardons for corruption offences, as well as whether to prohibit the Government from passing emergency ordinances concerning the judiciary and to extend the right to appeal against them to the Constitutional Court. Both proposals were approved by wide margins.

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians is a right-wing populist and nationalist political party active in Romania and Moldova. It was founded on 19 September 2019 ahead of the 2020 Romanian local and legislative elections. The party president is George Simion. The party ran in the local elections, not obtaining many votes and only winning in three towns. However, in the legislative elections, the AUR won 9% of the votes in all of Romania and its diaspora, thus becoming the fourth-largest party in the country at the central level, which surprised observers.
