A review at AllMusic states: "Taylor's concerts are a remarkable union of man and instrument... Paramount at all times is a sense of invention and exploration, Cecil surprising himself. The focus is unrelenting... The piano-playing here is only slightly less astonishing than that exhibited in his Herculean 1974 performance, Silent Tongues. But the structure and unity (who else can create such coherent, committed, large-scale structures?) are at least as remarkable. The audience brings Taylor back for an encore. He sits down and plays for a minute and a half: an after-dinner joke." [2]
Cecil Percival Taylor was an American pianist and poet.
Paul Bley, CM was a jazz pianist known for his contributions to the free jazz movement of the 1960s as well as his innovations and influence on trio playing and his early live performance on the Moog and ARP synthesizers. His music has been described by Ben Ratliff of the New York Times as "deeply original and aesthetically aggressive". Bley's prolific output includes influential recordings from the 1950s through to his solo piano recordings of the 2000s.
Don Gabriel Pullen was an American jazz pianist and organist. Pullen developed a strikingly individual style throughout his career. He composed pieces ranging from blues to bebop and modern jazz. The great variety of his body of work makes it difficult to pigeonhole his musical style.

Sweet Basil was a jazz club in New York City's Greenwich Village, located at 88 Seventh Avenue South. Founded in 1974 by Sharif Esmat, it was considered among the most prominent New York City jazz clubs of its day. Many jazz albums were recorded live at Sweet Basil, including Cecil Taylor's Iwontunwonsi, McCoy Tyner's Live at Sweet Basil (1989) and Solar: Live at Sweet Basil, and the Jean-Michel Pilc Trio's Together: Live at Sweet Basil. From 1981 to 1992, the club was owned by Phyllis Litoff and her husband Mel Litoff.
