History

In 2002, Jackpotjoy was launched by British online gaming operator, Gamesys Operations Limited, as part of Gamesys Group. [1]

Dame Barbara Windsor became Jackpotjoy's first ambassador in 2010, appearing as the "Queen of Bingo" in adverts up until 2017. [2]

In August 2012, Jackpotjoy were first to launch a real money gaming application on Facebook's UK App Centre that allowed adults to play for cash with their friends. It was called Bingo & Slots Friendzy. [3]

Jackpotjoy ran a publicity stunt in December 2012, with a 50-foot inflatable rubber duck floating down the River Thames as part of the FUNdation project, which hoped to inspire people to have more fun. [4]

In September 2017, Paddy McGuinness succeeded Barbara Windsor as the new face of Jackpotjoy. [5] His first TV advert in the new role featured Paddy celebrating receiving his final endorsement from the 'Queen of Bingo' as he became the new brand ambassador.

ITV's Loose Women began a sponsorship with Jackpotjoy that ran for two years from February 2019, showcasing a range of idents either side of the TV show's commercial breaks. [6]

Jackpotjoy was the first gambling platform to end television and radio advertsing during lockdown in April 2020, by temporarily removing their sponsorship of Loose Women. This was because vulnerable customers and children were more at risk of being bored at home and therefore more likely to develop bad gambling habits. Other gambling firms followed suit. [7]

Women's Aid began using the vacated airtime on Loose Women to raise awareness on domestic abuse during lockdown. In addition, Jackpotjoy donated £200,000 to Women's Aid in May 2020. [8]

Jackpotjoy became part of the Bally’s Corporation [9] after the United States based entertainment company acquired Gamesys Group in October 2021. [10]

On National Bingo Day in June 2022, Jackpotjoy donated £73,000 to Alzheimer's Research UK in memory of Dame Barbara Windsor, who died from the dementia disease in 2020. They raised more funds for charity by holding an auction to sell iconic dresses worn by Dame Barbara in their bingo adverts. [11]

Regulation
