Jacob Loko (born 12 August 1992) is an Australian rugby league footballer who most recently played for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW. [3]
Loko is of Fijian and Tongan descent. [4] Loko was raised in Claymore, New South Wales, a small suburb in Campbelltown.
Loko began playing junior rugby league for Campbelltown City Kangaroos and Eagle Vale, while also attending Eaglevale High School. Loko then moved to Westfields Sports High School playing junior league with the Cabramatta Two Blues and Allsaints Toongabbie, before completing his senior year at The Hills Sports High School. He was part of the team that won the ARL Schoolboy Cup and also played for the New South Wales under 18's team at the state championships. [5]
During Loko's senior year in high school, Loko performed strongly on the Parramatta Eels S. G. Ball Cup squad, which earned him a place in the National Youth Competition team. Loko played 16 games for the Parramatta Eels' National Youth Competition team over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, in which he has scored 7 tries including a hat-trick against the South Sydney Rabbitohs. [2] Loko made his debut for the Parramatta Eels in round five of the 2011 NRL season, playing against the Melbourne Storm in a 38–0 defeat. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the Round 17 game against the Brisbane Broncos. He was ruled out of the remainder of the 2011 NRL season.
In the 2012 preseason, Loko sustained another knee injury whilst boxing. He was once again ruled out for the season. Loko returned to first grade in the 2013 NRL season and made his return in round 1 against the New Zealand Warriors, where Parramatta won 40–10. Loko made a total of 13 appearances for Parramatta in the 2013 NRL season as the club finished last on the table and claimed the wooden spoon. [6] [7]
Canterbury-Bankstown signed Loko in 2014. Terry Lamb said that Loko has the same physical traits and dimensions as a young Sonny Bill Williams. [8]
On 2 January 2015, Loko was arrested and charged for high-range drink driving, with a blood alcohol level almost four times above the legal limit. [9]
In October 2015, Loko was caught with five capsules filled with ecstasy on his person at The Star casino. He was sacked by Canterbury as a result and didn't manage to make a single first grade appearance for the club. [10]
In 2016, Loko played for the Thirlmere Roosters in the Group 6 Rugby League competition. [11] [12] At the end of 2017, Loko signed a contract with the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles for the 2018 Intrust Super Premiership NSW season. [13] [14]
On 24 July 2018, a Sydney Morning Herald report revealed that Loko had quit playing for Blacktown Workers to play local park football and start an apprenticeship. [15]
In 2021, Loko returned to the Thirlmere Roosters, resuming his role in the backrow. [16]
The Western Suburbs Magpies are an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as they are commonly referred to, were one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. Nathan Frederick Cayless is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, and has coached in the 2010s. He played at representative level for New Zealand (captain), and at club level in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the Parramatta Eels, for whom he was a long-time captain, as a prop. He captained the New Zealand national team to a Rugby League World Cup victory over Australia in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, and coached at club level in the Intrust Super Premiership for the Wentworthville Magpies from 2016 to 2018.
The NSW Cup, currently known as the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a rugby league competition for clubs in New South Wales. The competition has a history dating back to the NSWRFL's origins in 1908, starting off as a reserve grade competition, and is now the premier open age competition in the state. The NSW Cup was the Reserve Grade/Presidents Cup/First Division from 1908 until 2002, and the NSWRL Premier League from 2003 to 2007, the NSW Cup from 2008 to 2015, the Intrust Super Premiership NSW from 2016 to 2018, the Canterbury Cup NSW from 2019 to 2020. The New South Wales Cup, along with the Queensland Cup, acts as a feeder competition to the National Rugby League premiership.
Yileen "Buddy" Gordon is an Australian rugby league footballer who plays for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Canterbury Cup NSW. Gordon formerly played for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Penrith Panthers. He was sacked by the West Tigers in February, 2014 for breach of contract. He currently plays in the Centres and has previously played in the back-row or at centre.
Ben Walker is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. A five-eighth or halfback, he played in Australia's National Rugby League for the Brisbane Broncos, Northern Eagles, Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and the South Sydney Rabbitohs, as well as in the Super League for the London Broncos and Leeds Rhinos.
Cabramatta Two Blues, colloquially known as Cabra, is an Australian rugby league football club that was originally formed in 1919 and then later completely formed as the Two Blues in 1939. They have always based from the Parramatta Junior Leagues, and their junior teams compete in the Parramatta District Junior Rugby League Association. They compete in the Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield however both sides did not field a side for the 2022 season in either competition. They play out of the Cabramatta, New South Wales, Sports Ground Complex which can fit up to 5,000 spectators. The Two Blues have won numerous A-Grade Titles with their last Premiership received in 2002.
Peter Mulholland was an Australian rugby league football coach. He coached ARL premiership expansion club Western Reds in their first two seasons before moving to France to take up the coaching position of Super League expansion team, Paris Saint-Germain. Before moving to the Bulldogs, Mulholland was Assistant Coach from 1999 to 2001 and Director of Recruitment (2002–2008) at the Penrith Panthers.
