The XVI Bolivarian Games were a multi-sport event held in 2009 in Sucre, Bolivia. The competitions in Sucre took place from 15–26 November. Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, commonly called La Casa Blanca, is a football stadium in Quito, Ecuador that is the home ground of LDU Quito. Built between 1995 and 1997, the stadium hosted its first match on March 6, 1997 in a game between LDU Quito and Atlético Mineiro of Belo Horizonte. At an altitude of 2,734 m and with a capacity of 41,575, it is the largest stadium in Quito, and the second largest in Ecuador after the Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha in Guayaquil.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Ecuador is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was reported to have spread to Ecuador on 29 February 2020 when a woman in her 70s tested positive for the virus. Ecuador was described in April as emerging as a possible "epicentre" of the pandemic in Latin America, with the city of Guayaquil overwhelmed to the point where bodies were being left in the street.
Alexandra Grande is a Peruvian karateka. In 2019, she won the gold medal in the women's kumite 61 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. Four years earlier, she also won the gold medal in the women's kumite 61 kg event at the 2015 Pan American Games. In 2011, she won the silver medal in this event at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
