Jakokoyak was a project created by Welsh musician and producer Rhys Edwards, with leanings towards psychedelic folk, sometimes classified as folktronica and lo-fi experimental electronic music. [1] Edwards also ran the now defunct Peski Records label. He is married to musician Gwenno Saunders and lives in Cardiff, Wales. [2]
A native of Mold, Flintshire and raised on Anglesey, Edwards began recording in his second year of university. Working and recording alone, he began exploring old keyboards and effects pedals. It was these recordings that subsequently gave him the passport to a postgraduate music course at Bangor.
In 2003 he released his debut album, Am Cyfan Dy Pethau Prydferth (the title was taken from a badly translated poster on the walls of the Cardiff Union [3] ). In the same year he won a Pop Factory award for Best New Talent, and Am Cyfan... was awarded Best Album at BBC Radio Cymru's 2003 music awards.
The album was re-released in Japan in 2004 and was warmly received in Japanese magazines such as Vogue Nippon.
After a string of releases, Jakokoyak supported the Super Furry Animals on their tour of Japan, which was followed with the release of theFlatyre EP (2006), of which its lead track "Eira" was voted Record of the Week on London's Xfm radio station.
Jakokoyak released a second album Aerophlot in 2010, a collection of songs recorded between 2006-2008.
Catatonia were an alternative rock band from Wales who gained popularity in the mid-to-late 1990s. The band formed in 1992 after Mark Roberts met Cerys Matthews and Kirsty Kennedy. The first major lineup featured Dafydd Ieuan of Super Furry Animals on drums, Paul Jones on bass, and Clancy Pegg on keyboards. With this line-up the band recorded two EPs, For Tinkerbell and Hooked.

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci were a psychedelic folk and alternative rock band which formed in Carmarthen, Wales, in 1991. The group performed music in both Welsh and English, and they had eight Top 75 singles on the UK Singles Chart during their career. They were prominent during the era known as Cool Cymru. The group disbanded in May 2006.

Genod Droog were a Welsh hip hop, indie pop band from Wales, which was formed in 2005 by Carwyn Jones, Gethin Evans, Dylan Roberts, Aneirin Karadog and Ed Holden, and split up on 16 November 2008.

Heavenly Recordings claim Gwenno felt a duty to make her second album entirely in Cornish as a record of the living language.

Adwaith (transl. Reaction) are a Welsh language indie rock group from Carmarthen in West Wales, formed in 2015. The group consists of Hollie Singer, Gwenllian Anthony and Heledd Owen (drums). Signed to Libertino Records, they released their first album Melyn in 2018. Both Melyn and its follow-up Bato Mato (2022) won Welsh Music Prize awarded for the best album from Wales, making Adwaith the first act to receive the award twice.
Tresor is the third solo studio album by Welsh singer Gwenno, released on 1 July 2022 by Heavenly Recordings. Like Gwenno's previous work, this album's lyrics are almost entirely in Cornish with one song, "N.Y.C.A.W.", in Welsh. The album's name comes from the Cornish word for "treasure". The album was shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize.
Welsh Folk-Songs is the first album by Welsh folk music singer and collector Meredydd Evans, consisting of a cappella renditions of traditional Welsh-language folk songs. The album was recorded in New Hope, Pennsylvania after Moses Asch, founder of Folkways Records, contacted Evans, who was then studying at Princeton University. Upon release in 1954, Welsh Folk-Songs was acclaimed by The New York Times, who named it among the year's best records.
