Jalmari Helander (born 21 July 1976) [1] is a Finnish screenwriter and film director. He is known for the 2010 film Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale , the 2014 action-adventure Big Game starring Samuel L. Jackson, and the 2022 WWII action film Sisu . Before turning to feature films, Helander directed several short films and award-winning television commercials. [2]
Helander is the brother-in-law of actor Jorma Tommila and the maternal uncle of Jorma's son Onni, both of whom have acted in his films.

The film is based on the 2003 short film Rare Exports, Inc. and its 2005 sequel Rare Exports: The Official Safety Instructions by Jalmari Helander and Juuso Helander, both of which involve a company that traps wild Santa Clauses and trains and exports them to locations around the world.

Set during the Lapland War between Finland and Nazi Germany towards the end of World War II, a legendary Finnish Army commando turned gold prospector attempts to defend himself from being robbed and murdered by a Waffen-SS platoon led by an infamously brutal and corrupt officer.

Risto Hemmi is a prominent figure in the Finnish music industry. For a long time, he was the CEO of Finland's largest recording studio, Finnvox Studios, and is still a board member and one of the owners. Hemmi began his career at Finnvox in 1979 and has worked in various capacities such as a sound engineer, mixer, and studio manager. He served as the CEO of the studio from 1993 until recently. All of Finnvox's nine studios have been designed by Hemmi.
