James C. Bean

James Carl "Jim" Bean is an American college administrator from Oregon. From 2015 to 2020, he served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. [1] [2] He previously served for 5 years as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs at the Lundquist College of Business, [3] [4] and also Senior Vice President and Provost at the University of Oregon from 2008 to 2013. Career

Bean was previously the dean of the Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon where he served as the Harry B. Miller Professor of Business from 2004 to 2008. [3] [5] Additionally, he served as an administrator for 24 years at the University of Michigan. He served as the associate dean for graduate education and international programs in the College of Engineering, and associate dean for academic affairs. He is a member of the board of trustees at Harvey Mudd College. [2]

Bean was previously president of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. He remains a charter fellow of the institute. [2] [6] In 2010 he was awarded the George E. Kimball Medal. He lives in Portland, Oregon. [2]

Education

Bean earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College in 1977 and an M.S. in Operations Research from Stanford University in 1979. [7] He obtained a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Stanford in 1981 with thesis An Additive Algorithm for the Multiple Choice Integer Program written under the direction of Frederick Stanton Hillier. Before becoming the dean at Missouri Western, Lane was Emporia State University's fifteenth president and an accounting professor from 2006 to 2011, and provost/vice president at several institutions.

Clive Dym was a professor emeritus of Engineering Design and also Director of the Center for Design Education at Harvey Mudd College. He served as the chair of the engineering department at Harvey Mudd College from 1999 through 2002. He taught at several universities including at Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford University, Northwestern University and University of Southern California. He was a member of the Institute for Defense Analyses and National Academy of Engineering. He was awarded the Gordon Prize in 2012. He earned a BS from Cooper Union in 1962, an MS from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1964 and a PhD from Stanford University in 1967. Dym died May 3, 2016.

Talithia D. Williams is an American statistician and mathematician at Harvey Mudd College who researches the spatiotemporal structure of data. She was the first black woman to achieve tenure at Harvey Mudd College. Williams is an advocate for engaging more African Americans in engineering and science.

Rachel Levy is an American mathematician and blogger. She currently serves as the inaugural Executive Director of the North Carolina State University Data Science Academy. She was a 2020-21 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, serving in the United States Senate and sponsored by the American Mathematical Society. From 2018-2020 she served as deputy executive director of the Mathematical Association of America(2018-2020). As a faculty member at Harvey Mudd College from 2007-2019 her research was in applied mathematics, including the mathematical modeling of thin films, and the applications of fluid mechanics to biology. This work was funded by The National Science Foundation, Research Corporation, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and US Office of Naval Research.

Harriet Black Nembhard is the President of Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California. From July 2020 through June 2023, she served as the Dean of the University of Iowa College of Engineering and the Roy J. Carver Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at that institution.

Dare Ann Baldwin is a scientist known for her research on learning mechanisms and early social skills of infants and young children. Baldwin is a professor of psychology at Oregon University. Scott L. Pratt is a professor of philosophy at the University of Oregon. His research and teaching is focused primarily upon American philosophy, especially in the areas of Native American philosophy, pragmatism, philosophy of race and gender, philosophy of education, and the history of logic.
