James Alan Regan (born 30 May 1994) is an English cricketer who played for Somerset County Cricket Club. He is a right-handed batsman who also plays as a wicket-keeper.
James Regan was born in Frimley,Surrey on 30 May 1994. Regan attended St Patrick's Catholic Primary School,Farnborough and All Hallows Catholic School,Farnham before moving on to King's College,where he scored runs heavily. [1] [2] Regan joined the Somerset County Cricket Club academy in 2011 and featured significantly for the Somerset Second XI towards the end of the summer with both bat and gloves. [1]
Regan made his first-class debut for Somerset against Cardiff MCC University on 31 March 2012,following the decision to rest senior wicket-keepers Jos Buttler and Craig Kieswetter. [3] Regan didn't bat in Somerset's only innings of the match and failed to take a catch behind the stumps. [4] Regan then kept wicket for part of the two-day match against the touring South Africans in July 2012. [5] Regan spent the 2012–13 winter playing grade cricket for Latrobe Cricket Club in Tasmania,Australia. [6]
In 2013,Regan played regularly for the Somerset 2nd XI but his only first team match was against Cardiff MCCU in a three-day match. [7]
Having played regularly and scored well with the bat for the Second XI in the 2014 season,Regan was expected to make his breakthrough into the first team in 2015. However,before the career-ending injury to Craig Kieswetter,Regan broke his metacarpal on his right index finger just on the knuckle. [8] With Alex Barrow as the only fit wicket-keeper in the squad,the county signed Michael Bates as cover. At the end of the 2015 season,Regan was released by Somerset. [9] Regan subsequently announced that he would retrain as an independent financial advisor,with Taunton-based Cooper Associates. [10] He now works in the mortgage division of the company and looks after several clients from within Cricket. [11]
Somerset County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Somerset. Founded in 1875,Somerset was initially regarded as a minor county until official first-class status was acquired in 1895. Somerset has competed in the County Championship since 1891 and has subsequently played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club's limited overs team was formerly named the Somerset Sabres,but is now known only as Somerset.

James Charles Hildreth is a former English professional cricketer who played for Somerset County Cricket Club. He attended Millfield School,Somerset. He is a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler. Hildreth represented England at all youth levels including the 2003–04 Under-19 World cup held in Bangladesh. He made his first-class debut in 2003 and became a regular member of the side from the start of the 2004 season. The James Hildreth Stand was opened by him at Somerset County Cricket Ground on 21 September 2022.
Craig Kieswetter is an English professional golfer and former cricketer who appeared in 71 matches for the England cricket team between 2010 and 2013. Born and raised in South Africa,Kieswetter moved to England to complete his education,and began playing county cricket for Somerset in 2007. Three years later,he made his international debut in a One Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh. A wicket-keeper batsman,he was considered a one-day specialist,and all his international appearances came in ODIs or Twenty20 Internationals.
Maximilian Thomas Charles Waller is a former English professional cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a leg break bowler. He played first-class,List A and Twenty20 cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club.
Joseph Charles Buttler is an English cricketer who is the captain of the England cricket team in limited-overs cricket,and previously played for the England Test team. In domestic cricket he represents Lancashire,having previously played for Somerset,and has played in multiple Twenty20 leagues,including for Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. Widely regarded as England cricket team's greatest ever batter in limited-overs cricket,Buttler is known for his highly innovative and aggressive batting style. He was part of the England team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Under his captaincy,England won the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.
Michael David Bates is an English cricketer. Bates is a right-handed batsman who plays as a wicket-keeper. Bates is regarded by some as England's best wicket-keeper,but consider his batting is not up to the same standards.
Somerset County Cricket Club competed in four domestic competitions during the 2009 English cricket season:the first division of the County Championship,the Friends Provident Trophy,the first division of the NatWest Pro40 League and the Twenty20 Cup. Through their performance in the Twenty20 Cup,the team qualified for the Champions League Twenty20. They enjoyed a successful season,but fell short of winning any competitions,prompting Director of Cricket Brian Rose to say "We've had enough of being cricket's nearly men."

Taunton Vale Sports Club is a multi use community sports club located in Taunton,Somerset. Taunton Vale HC,Taunton Cricket and Taunton Vale Tennis Club are the resident sports clubs. It is also the regular home venue of both Somerset County Cricket Club's Second XI,Somerset CCC also holding many of their games against MCC Universities teams at the ground,which have so far included two first-class matches,in 2012 and 2015.

Andrew Peter Sutton is an English former cricketer who played as a right arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed batsman for Somerset,Herefordshire and Wiltshire. He joined Somerset after impressing for Gloucestershire Second XI in a match against Somerset Second XI in May 2007 and was awarded a one-year contract for the 2008 season,at the end of which he was released without having made a first-team appearance. However,he later appeared for Somerset against Cardiff MCC University in what turned out to be his only first-class match from 31 March to 2 April 2012. He took a wicket in each innings and did not bat.
Matthew Edward Hobden was an English cricketer,a right-arm fast-medium bowler who batted right-handed. Born in Eastbourne,East Sussex,Hobden was educated at Millfield School and Eastbourne College. A police investigation into his death concluded in May 2016 with no further action or arrests.
The 2012 season saw Somerset County Cricket Club competing in three domestic competitions;the first division of the County Championship in which despite the squad being ravaged with injuries they finished as runners-up,the Clydesdale Bank 40 but a poor start meant they finished third in their group,and the county reached the semi-finals of the Friends Life t20.

The 2019 Marylebone Cricket Club University Matches were a series of cricket matches that were played between the eighteen County Championship teams and the six Marylebone Cricket Club University teams (MCCU) of England and Wales. The first two rounds of fixtures were classed as first-class matches. Each county side played one fixture against an MCCU side ahead of the start of the 2019 County Championship.
