Michael Burns is an English first-class list cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer who played county cricket for Warwickshire and Somerset in a first-class career which spanned from 1992 until 2005. He also played Minor Counties cricket for Cumberland and Cornwall. An adaptable cricketer,he appeared for Cumberland and Warwickshire as a wicket-keeper,but when he moved to Somerset he developed into an aggressive batsman who bowled at medium-pace when needed.

Andrew Peter Sutton is an English former cricketer who played as a right arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed batsman for Somerset,Herefordshire and Wiltshire. He joined Somerset after impressing for Gloucestershire Second XI in a match against Somerset Second XI in May 2007 and was awarded a one-year contract for the 2008 season,at the end of which he was released without having made a first-team appearance. However,he later appeared for Somerset against Cardiff MCC University in what turned out to be his only first-class match from 31 March to 2 April 2012. He took a wicket in each innings and did not bat.
Matthew Edward Hobden was an English cricketer,a right-arm fast-medium bowler who batted right-handed. Born in Eastbourne,East Sussex,Hobden was educated at Millfield School and Eastbourne College. A police investigation into his death concluded in May 2016 with no further action or arrests.

Somerset County Cricket Club made their debut in first-class cricket in the 1882 English cricket season. They were captained by Stephen Newton,and played eight first-class matches,five against county opposition,two against the Marylebone Cricket Club and one against the touring Australian team. They only won one of the eight contests,that against Hampshire at Taunton. Of the other matches,one was drawn and the other six were all losses for Somerset. Wisden Cricketers' Almanack described the season as "disastrous",but the publication qualified this statement with mild optimism for 1883.

It was the eighth final of the Twenty20 Cup.
The 2019 Marylebone Cricket Club University Matches were a series of cricket matches that were played between the eighteen County Championship teams and the six Marylebone Cricket Club University teams (MCCU) of England and Wales. The first two rounds of fixtures were classed as first-class matches. Each county side played one fixture against an MCCU side ahead of the start of the 2019 County Championship.
