The Jameson RJJ-1 Gipsy Hawk was a single-engine light aircraft intended to be homebuilt from plans. The prototype was designed and constructed in the U.S. by Richard Jameson in the late 1960s-early 1970s.

Design and development

The Gypsy Hawk was an all-metal low wing monoplane, constructed throughout from light alloy angle spars and frames under a light alloy skin. The wings and tailplane had constant chord and square tips. There was a fuel tank in the outer panel of each wing. The all-moving tail was set at the extreme rear fuselage and had external mass balances and an anti-servo tab. The fin and rudder were further forward, swept and with a fillet to lead the fin into the strongly sloping upper fuselage. [1]

The fuselage was a light alloy semi-monocoque with a nose-mounted 65 hp (48 kW) Continental A65 flat-four engine driving a fixed pitch, two-blade propeller. The single-seat cockpit placed the pilot over the wing under a two-piece blown canopy. The Gypsy Hawk had a fixed, unfaired tricycle undercarriage. [1]

Construction of the Gypsy Hawk began about 1968 and the first flight was in 1972. [1] [2]

Operational history

By the end of February 1974 the Gypsy Hawk had logged 200 hours of testing [1] but there is no record of other examples. [2]

By November 2012 the sole example was no longer registered in the United States with the Federal Aviation Administration and may no longer exist. [3]

Auster Workmaster Agricultural monoplane

The Auster J/1U Workmaster is a late 1950s British single-engined single-seat high-wing agricultural monoplane built by Auster Aircraft Limited at Rearsby, Leicestershire. Of traditional high-wing layout, it carries 90 gallons of spray fluid in a tank beside the pilot, an extra seat being provided for a passenger. The Lycoming 0-360-A engine of 180 h.p. driving a McCauley v.p. propeller giving it ample power; and slotted ailerons and balanced tail controls providing good handling. Oversize tyres were fitted. Take-off run at 2,550 lb gross weight and cruising speed at 65 per cent power are respectively 180 yd and 88 miles per hour (142 km/h). Britten-Norman spray gear was provided by Crop Culture, and this company ordered nine Workmasters.

The Auster Avis was a four-seat light aircraft developed from the Auster Autocrat. It featured a redesigned fuselage incorporating four doors and a circular cross-section towards the tail, new undercarriage, and new wing flaps. It was planned in two versions, the Mk 1 for civil use, and the Mk 2 for military and air ambulance duties. However, only two prototypes were built, and Auster abandoned the project in favour of the Auster J-5 Autocar.

Isaacs Spitfire

The DSK Airmotive DSK-1 Hawk was an unusual homebuilt aircraft designed in the United States in the early 1970s. While the design itself was utterly conventional - a single-seat low-wing cantilever monoplane with fixed tricycle undercarriage - its method of construction was not, since the DSK-1 Hawk used a surplus 200 US Gal military drop tank as its fuselage. Designer Richard Killingsworth sold over 250 sets of plans.

The Gatard Statoplan AG 02 Poussin was a light, single-seat sports airplane developed in France in the late 1950s and marketed for homebuilding. In layout, it was a low-wing cantilever monoplane of short-coupled design with fixed tailwheel undercarriage. Construction was a plywood-covered wooden structure throughout, and the cockpit was enclosed by a large perspex bubble canopy. The variable-incidence horizontal stabiliser was fitted with small endplates to provide extra directional stability but there were no separate elevators.

Aero-Service Puma Polish ultralight aircraft

The Aero-Service Puma is a Polish ultralight aircraft, designed and produced by Aero-Service Jacek Skopiński of Warsaw. The aircraft is supplied complete and ready-to-fly.
