Jan Holoubek (born 4 March 1978) is a Polish director and cinematographer. He is best known for directing the Netflix series The Mire , High Water , and Heweliusz . He also directed the 2020 drama film 25 Years of Innocence .

Early life

Holoubek was born in Warsaw to Polish actors Gustaw Holoubek and Magdalena Zawadzka. His cousin is Australian actress Magda Szubanski. [1]

He graduated from the Łódź Film School in 2001. [2] He began his career as a camera operator. [3]

Career

Film

In 2020, he directed the drama film 25 Years of Innocence , for which he was nominated for the Polish Academy Award for Best Film. [4] In 2023, he directed the historical drama film Doppelgänger . [5]

His upcoming feature film is titled Escape from the Dark Valley. [6] [7]

Television

From 2018 to 2024, he directed the Netflix thriller television series The Mire . [8] In 2022, he created and directed the television Netflix series High Water . [9] He directed the upcoming historical drama television miniseries Heweliusz , set to premiere on Netflix in 2025. [10] [11]

Personal life

He is in a relationship with actress Magdalena Różczka. [12] [13] They have two daughters. [14] [15]
