Jani Nieminen (born July 28, 1987) is a Finnish ice hockey goaltender who currently plays professionally for the Fischtown Pinguins in Germany.
A product of Helsinki-based club HIFK, Nieminen played for his hometown team until 2010, but also had some loan stints during his time at HIFK, allowing him to earn playing time in Finland’s second division.
From 2010 to 2012, he played for Tappara, followed by stints at fellow Liiga sides SaiPa and Espoo Blues. [1] In June 2016, he was signed by the Fischtown Pinguins, a Bremerhaven-based team from the German top-flight Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). [2]
Kiekko-Espoo Naiset are an ice hockey team in the Naisten Liiga. They play in the Tapiola district of Espoo, Finland at the harjoitusareena of the Tapiolan urheilupuisto. The team was founded as Espoon Kiekkoseura or EKS in 1989 and has also been known as Espoo Blues Naiset and Espoo United Naiset during its tenure in the Naisten Liiga. Kiekko-Espoo have won the Aurora Borealis Cup as the Finnish Champions in women's ice hockey sixteen times, six more wins than any other team in league history; at least one Finnish Championship medal was won under each of the four names.
Ville Juhani Nieminen is a Finnish former professional ice hockey forward who played over 400 games in the National Hockey League.
Jere Juhani Karalahti is a Finnish former professional ice hockey defenceman. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings as their sixth-round pick in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and played a total of 166 games in the NHL. Karalahti won the 1998 Liiga championship in his native Finland, he is a three-time silver medalist at World Championships and also won one bronze with the Finnish national team. His playing career included stints in Finland, the US, Germany, Belarus and Sweden.
Douglas Arthur Shedden is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. He played in the National Hockey League between 1981 and 1991. After his playing career he became a coach, and worked in the minor leagues for several years. He coached Team Finland to a bronze medal in 2008 World Championships. Shedden is currently coaching HC '05 Banská Bystrica in the Slovak Tipos extraliga.
The Fischtown Pinguins, also known as REV Bremerhaven, are a professional ice hockey team based in Bremerhaven, Germany. From 2004 to 2016 the team played at the second level of ice hockey in Germany, until the 2012–13 season the 2nd Bundesliga and, from the 2013–14 season onward the DEL2. On 1 July 2016 the team was granted a DEL licence for the 2016–17 season to replace the Hamburg Freezers in the league which had withdrawn from the competition.
