Janusz Kacprzyk (born 12 July 1947) is a Polish engineer and mathematician, notable for his contributions to the field of computational and artificial intelligence tools like fuzzy sets, mathematical optimization, decision making under uncertainty, computational intelligence, intuitionistic fuzzy sets, data analysis and data mining, with applications in databases, ICT, mobile robotics and others.

Kacprzyk is a professor of computer science at the Systems Research Institute and an academician (full member) of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Currently he is president of the Polish Operational and Systems Research Society and past president of the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA) in 2009-2011.

He is a foreign member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (2007), of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2013), of the Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters (2018), of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts (2019), as well as member of Academia Europaea and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and fellow of multiple professional societies, like IEEE, Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), European Coordinating Committee of Artificial Intelligence (EurAI/ECCAI), IFSA, and Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (SMIA). In 2013, he becomes the laureate of the annual IFSA Award.

Biography

In 1970, Kacprzyk graduated from Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, with M.Sc. in automatic control and computer science. In 1977, he obtained Ph.D. in systems analysis and in 1991 D.Sc. (habilitation) in computer science. As of 1997, he is full professor, awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland. [1]

As of 2018, Kacprzyk is professor of computer science at the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, at Warsaw School of Information Technology, and Chongqing Three Gorges University, Wanzhou, Chinqgqung, China. He is honorary foreign professor at the Department of Mathematics, Yili Normal University, Xinjiang, China, as well as part-time professor of automatic control at Polish Industrial Institute of Automation and Measurements (PIAP) and part-time professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Cracow University of Technology. Kacprzyk has been a frequent visiting professor in the US, Italy, UK, Mexico, China, Japan. [1]

As of April 2018, Kacprzyk has authored 6 books, edited or co-edited more than 100 volumes, authored or co-authored approximately 550 papers. He is the editor-in-chief of 7 book series at Springer, and of two journals, and is on the editorial boards of approximately 40 scientific journals. [1]

Pal is a computer scientist with an international reputation on pattern recognition, image processing, fuzzy neural network, rough fuzzy hybridization, soft computing, granular mining, and machine intelligence. He pioneered the development of fuzzy set theory, and neuro-fuzzy and rough-fuzzy computing for uncertainty modelling with demonstration in pattern recognition, image processing, machine learning, knowledge-based systems and data mining. Pal is widely recognized across the world for his pioneering and extraordinary contributions in Machine Intelligence, Fuzzy Logic, Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition. This has made India a leader in these disciplines in international scenario. He founded the Machine Intelligence Unit in 1993, and the Center for Soft Computing Research: A National Facility in 2004, both at the ISI. In the process he has created many renowned scientists out of his doctoral students.

David Harel is a computer scientist, currently serving as President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Michael Athans was a Greek-American control theorist and a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a Fellow of the IEEE (1973) and a Fellow of the AAAS (1977). He was the recipient of numerous awards for his contributions in the field of control theory. A pioneer in the field of control theory, he helped shape modern control theory and spearheaded the field of multivariable control system design and the field of robust control. Athans was a member of the technical staff at Lincoln Laboratory from 1961 to 1964, and a Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science faculty member from 1964 to 1998. Upon retirement, Athans moved to Lisbon, Portugal, where he was an Invited Research Professor in the Institute for Systems and Robotics, Instituto Superior Técnico where he received a honoris causa doctorate from the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa in 2011.

Andrzej Cichocki is a Polish computer scientist, electrical engineer and a professor at the Systems Research Institute of Polish Academy of Science, Warsaw, Poland and a visiting professor in several universities and research institutes, especially Riken AIP, Japan. He is most noted for his learning algorithms for  Signal separation (BSS), Independent Component Analysis (ICA), Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF), tensor decomposition,  Deep (Multilayer) Matrix Factorizations for ICA, NMF, PCA, neural networks for optimization and signal processing, Tensor network for Machine Learning and Big Data, and brain–computer interfaces. He is the author of several monographs/books and more than 500 scientific peer-reviewed articles.

The Polish Operational and Systems Research Society, POSRS is the Polish scientific, scholarly and professional non-profit society for the advancements of operational and systems research (OR/SR). The Society is the core active body of the Association of Polish Operational Research Societies (ASPORS), the formal member of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies and its subsidiary, the Association of European Operational Research Societies.

Enrique Herrera Viedma is the Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Granada (UGR), Spain. He is also Professor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the same university since 1994.

Nikola Kirilov Kasabov also known as Nikola Kirilov Kassabov is a Bulgarian and New Zealand computer scientist, academic and author. He is a professor emeritus of Knowledge Engineering at Auckland University of Technology, Founding Director of the Knowledge Engineering and Discovery Research Institute (KEDRI), George Moore Chair of Data Analytics at Ulster University, as well as visiting professor at both the Institute for Information and Communication Technologies (IICT) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Dalian University in China. He is also the Founder and Director of Knowledge Engineering Consulting.
