CD-198 or No. 198 was a Type D escort ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II.
She was laid down on 31 December 1944 at the Nagasaki shipyard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the benefit of the Imperial Japanese Navy and launched on 26 February 1945. [2] [3] On 11 March 1945, she was completed and commissioned. [2] [3] On 10 August 1945, she was damaged along with CD-194 by enemy aircraft in the Tsushima Strait at 34°42′N130°13′E / 34.700°N 130.217°E Coordinates: 34°42′N130°13′E / 34.700°N 130.217°E . [2] On 15 August 1945, Japan announced their unconditional surrender and she was turned over to the Allies in September 1945. [2] On 5 October 1945, she was struck from the Navy List. [2] [3] On 1 December 1945, she was assigned to the Allied Repatriation Service. [2]
On 31 July 1947, she was ceded to the Republic of China as a war reparation and renamed Hsian. [2]
In 1949, she was taken over by the People's Republic of China [2] and renamed Xian (西安). [4] She was struck from the Naval List in 1986. [4]
Sakura was one of 18 Matsu-class destroyers built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the final stages of World War II. Completed in late 1944, the ship was assigned to convoy escort duties in February 1945. She was slightly damaged when she struck a mine in May. Sakura sank after striking another mine near Osaka on 11 July with heavy loss of life.
The Japanese destroyerKamikaze was the lead ship of nine Kamikaze-class destroyers built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the 1920s. At the beginning of the Pacific War in December 1941, the ship was assigned to the Ōminato Guard District. She remained in northern Japanese waters until mid-1942 when she participated in the Aleutian Islands Campaign. Kamikaze continued to patrol northern Japanese waters until early 1945 when she was transferred to the Singapore area.
