Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is an American football quarterback for the California Golden Bears.
Sagapolutele initially attended the Saint Louis School, where played on the junior varsity team as a freshman. [1] As a sophomore, he earned the starting quarterback spot at James Campbell High School. [2] Ahead of his senior season, Sagapolutele competed in the Elite 11 competition. [3] As a senior he tossed for 3,404 yards and 46 touchdowns against three interceptions before suffering a season-ending knee injury. [4] Sagapolutele was named the 2024 MaxPreps Hawaii High School Football Player of the Year. [5] He set the Hawaii state record with 10,653 career passing yards, surpassing Dillon Gabriel. [4]
Coming out of high school, Sagapolutele was rated as a four-star recruit, the ninth overall quarterback, and the 88th overall player in the class of 2024. [6] He received offers from schools such as California, Oregon, Georgia, Colorado, and Boise State. [7] Sagapolutele initially committed to play college football for the California Golden Bears before he flipped his commitment to play for the Oregon Ducks. [8]
After enrolling at the University of Oregon, Sagapolutele entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal before the start of his freshman season. [6]
Sagapolutele transferred to play for the California Golden Bears, after previously being committed to play at Cal. [5] Heading into the 2025 season, he is projected to be the Golden Bears starting quarterback, and will compete for the job with Devin Brown and C. J. Harris. [9] [10]
Sagapolutele is the younger brother of Hawaii quarterback John-Keawe Sagapolutele. [11]
Jeffrey Raye Tedford is an American football coach and former player. From 2002 to 2012, Tedford was the head football coach for the California Golden Bears, where he was twice named Pac-10 Coach of the Year and holds the California program records for most wins, games coached, and bowl game victories. He also coached at Fresno State from 2017 to 2019 and from 2022 to 2023, leading the team to a school record 12 wins in 2018.
