Jason Wexler is an American basketball executive. He holds the position of team president of the Memphis Grizzlies since April 2019. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] Wexler is responsible for supervision of marketing communications, [6] [7] [8] community investment, [9] [10] [11] corporate partnerships, [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] ticket sales, [17] [18] [19] and arena operations. [20] [21] [22] [23] Previously, Wexler served as president of business operations beginning in July 2014. Before this, Wexler served in the capacity of Chief Operating Officer at the organization starting in 2013. [24] [25] [26] [27]

Early career

Early in his career, Wexler founded Greenhat Partners LLC, a firm specializing in real estate development and investment. Prior to that, Wexler was a partner in the Memphis law firm of Hanover, Walsh, Jalenak and Blair, PLLC.

Before joining the Grizzlies, Wexler was the president of the Henry Turley Company. In that role, he oversaw the execution of city center development initiatives and managed the daily operations of the real estate firm. [28] [29]

With the promotion of Wexler to team president, he was set to guide them through a new era, shifting from the "Grit and Grind" era characterized by the departures of players like Marc Gasol and Mike Conley in 2019. [30] [31] The focus will now be on developing a younger core centered around talents such as Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant. [32] [33]

Personal life

Wexler received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia and completed his education with a degree from Columbia Law School. [34]

He played for five teams over the course of his professional career, making the All-NBA Third Team in 2011 with the Memphis Grizzlies. He also played with the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings before retiring in December 2019. Randolph later planned to come out of retirement in 2020 to join the Big3.

The 2004–05 NBA season was the Grizzlies' tenth season in the National Basketball Association, and their fourth season in Memphis, Tennessee. Coming off their first playoff appearance in franchise history, the Grizzlies had a new look and moved into their new arena, the FedExForum. However, the team struggled with a 5–7 start as 71-year-old Hubie Brown retired from coaching due to "unexpected health problems". The Grizzlies would lose their next four games under Lionel Hollins before replacing him with TNT analyst Mike Fratello. Under Fratello, the Grizzlies would win 12 of their 15 games in January climbing back into playoff contention. Despite losing five of their last six games, the Grizzlies finished fourth in the Southwest Division with a 45–37 record, making their second consecutive trip to the playoffs.
