The Hel Fortified Area was a set of Polish fortifications, constructed on the Hel Peninsula in northern Poland, in close proximity to the interwar border of Poland and the Third Reich. It was created in 1936, upon a decree of President Ignacy Mościcki. It covered most part of the peninsula, and during Polish September Campaign, it was the last place of Poland to surrender to the invading Wehrmacht. During World War II, the naval base in Hel was used as a major training facility for U-boat crews.
The Sopot Lighthouse is a navigation facility on the Polish Baltic coast, located in Sopot. It was built in 1903–04 as a part of the Balneological Institute. The extent of its focal length of the light has since been reduced to 7 nautical miles, which, according to existing criteria, no longer formally makes it a lighthouse, although it is still called so. It is open to visitors.

The lighthouse is located on the Hel Peninsula, on Góra Szwedów, a 19-metre-high (62 ft) hill. The lighthouse is located between the Jastarnia Lighthouse and the Hel Lighthouse. The lighthouse replaced the Jastarnia Bór Lighthouse. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1990.
