Jattu is a town in Edo state Nigeria. [1] [2] It is the headquarters of Uzairue Clan in Etsako West council of Edo state. Uzairue Clan consist of twenty-one (21) villages, namely Jattu, Afowa, Elele, Iyamho, Ogbido, Uluoke, Ayaoghena, Ayua, Iyuku, Imeke, Afashio, Iyora, Apana, Imonikhe, Yelwa, Ozor, Ikabigbo, Idatto, Ugbenor, Irekpai, and Ayogwiri. Jattu is bounded by Auchi, Afashio, Elele/Iviamho, Ayua, and South Ibie. [3] [4]
Jattu is a prominent town in Etsakoland; with a large population of Etsako people as residents. [5]
Notable locations in Jattu include the Palace of the Ogieneni of Uzairue, Jattu New Market (arguably the largest market in Afemailand), St. Philips Catholic Church, Utukwe Market, St James the Great Anglican Church, Central Mosque, Notre Dame Catholic hospital, NTA Uzairue, Jattu Grammar School, General Post Office and Divisional Police station. The villages and quarters within Jattu are; Okotoukwe, Iyano, Iyogbe, Iyeate, Iyeremhe, Iyegbefue, Venus Quarter, Iyowha, Newsite and Ikoyi Quarters. [7]
The people of Jattu speak the Ikpe language in the Uzairue dialect. They are mainly Christians, Muslims, and traditionalist. Jattu played a vital role in the migration of AFEMAI people from Benin Kingdom as it believed to be their first abode when they left in search for freedom.

Afemai people occupy six local government areas of Edo state: Etsako West, with headquarters in Auchi it has an area of 944.8 km² with a population of 198,975 at the 2006 census, Etsako Central, with the headquarters in Fugar it has an area of 659.7 km² with a population of 94,228 in the 2006 census, Etsako East, with the headquarters in Agenebode it has an area of 1,131 km² with a population of 147,335 in the 2006 census, Owan East with Afuze as the headquarters it has an area of 1,239 km² with a population of 154,630 in the 2006 census, Owan West with Sabongida-Ora as the headquarters it has an area of 731.4 km² with a population of 99,056 in the 2006 census and Akoko Edo,Igarra being the headquarters It has an area of 1,371 km² with a population of 262,567 at the 2006 census.These make up the Edo-North Senatorial District.

The Etsakọ people are one of the major ethnic group in the northern region of Edo State, Nigeria. They are historically linked to the ancient Benin kingdom. Administratively, they presently occupy three local government areas of Edo State. These are: Etsako East, Etsako West and Etsako Central, with Agenebode, Auchi, and Fugar as their administrative headquarters respectively.

Akoko Edo is a Local Government Area in Edo State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is in the town of Igarra. It has an area of 1,371 km2 and a population of 262,110 at the 2006 census. It consist of the Akoko people who are split into Ondo and Edo states. Most recognize as Yoruba and bear names identical with their counterparts in Akoko Ondo. The Benin conquests during the reign of Oba Ozolua (1483-1504) established its first settlements in the region, while other people migrated there for fortunes, including the Bida. Of the Igbirra and Idah from the North and East, the war which Oba Esigie fought in 1515-1516 with the Attah of Idah would have also contributed to migration into the area.

Francis Asekhame Alimikhena is a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Edo State. He served in the Senate from 2015 to 2023, representing Edo North Senatorial District. He was first elected in 2015 and reelected to a second term in 2019. However, he lost his re-election bid in 2023. Alimikhena was the vice-chairman, Senate Committee on Housing and also a member of the Senate committee on Constitutional Review.
Philip Shaibu is a Nigerian accountant and politician who has served as the deputy governor of Edo State since 2016. He was impeached in 2024 but was reinstated by the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday, 17 July 2024. He previously served as a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Etsako from 2015 to 2016, and as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015.

He belonged to the Ibadan History School and his major works examine the motives for colonialism and highlight the political, social and economic consequences of British rule for the African kingdom.
