Jayant Raj Kushwaha [1] is an Indian politician, Member of Legislative Assembly from the Amarpur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) of Bihar, and Minister of Rural Work in the Government of Bihar. In the 2020 election, he defeated Jitendra Singh of the Indian National Congress. While Raj secured 33.13% of votes polled, Singh, the runner up, finished with 31.23% of the votes. [2] Raj is a member of Janata Dal (United), the ruling party of Bihar. [3]
Raj is the son of former Member of Legislative Assembly Janardan Manjhi who earlier represented the same electoral constituency of Amarpur. [4] He completed his schooling from C N D High School Baunsi Banka, Bachelor of Business Administration from Marwari College, Bhagalpur, Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in 2010. [5]
Nitish kumar trusted him with ministerial post despite him being a first time MLA, Nitish even came to his defense when the minister was being questioned on his work by BJP MLAs. [6]
On 9 August 2022, Janata Dal (United) (JDU) led by Nitish Kumar broke it's ties with the Bhartiya Janata Party. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar joined hands with erstwhile political rival Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led by son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav. Jayant Raj, who was serving as minister for rural works resigned from his post and in the new government formed after coalition of RJD, JDU, Indian National Congress and other smaller parties, Raj was again reappointed as minister, this time for Minor Water Resources in Eighth Nitish Kumar ministry. As minor water resource minister, he led establishment of regional registry office in Amarpur to deal with cases of land registration. It was established in order to reduce the burden on sole registry office located in Banka district headquarter. While inaugurating the registry office, Raj announced that the opening of regional office will not only sort out issues related to registration of land earlier, but will also create more jobs and enhance the revenue of government. [9] In this second term as minister, Raj has also remained a critic of Upendra Kushwaha (a rebel leader of Janata Dal United). He alleged Kushwaha of weakening Nitish Kumar; meanwhile, he also contended that the government of Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) was working for the benefit of poor and downtrodden section of society, while the activities of Kushwaha was destabilising it. In March 2024, he was made minister of building construction in the ninth nitish kumar ministry. This was his third term as a minister. [11]
Janata Dal (United) ("People’s Party (United)"), abbreviated as JD(U), is an Indian political party with political presence mainly in eastern and north-eastern India. JD(U) is recognised as a state party in the states of Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur and is a part of government in Bihar. JD(U) heads the government in Bihar and has remained the second largest party in Manipur. JD(U) won 16 seats in the 2019 Indian general election, making it the seventh largest party in the Lok Sabha.

Tilka Majhi Bhagalpur University, formerly Bhagalpur University, is a public university in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India. It was established on 12 July 1960, having local colleges initially associated with Patna University. Its campus is around 264 acres (1.07 km2) in area. The name was changed from Bhagalpur University to Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in 1991 in commemoration of Tilka Majhi, a freedom fighter.
Upendra Kumar Singh, commonly known as Upendra Kushwaha is an Indian politician, and a former Member of Bihar Legislative Council and Bihar Legislative Assembly. He has also served as Minister of State for Human Resources and Development in the Government of India. Kushwaha is a former Member of Parliament (MP) from the Karakat constituency in Rohtas district, Bihar, and a former member of the Rajya Sabha. He was the leader of Rashtriya Samata Party (RSP), his own party, which merged into Janata Dal (United) (JDU) in 2009. Later, he formed Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), which also merged with JD(U) in 2021. On 20 February 2023, Kushwaha resigned from all positions in Janata Dal (United) and formed his own party called Rashtriya Lok Morcha due to his political problems with JD(U) and Nitish Kumar.
Jitan Ram Manjhi is an Indian politician from the eastern state of Bihar who served as its 23rd Chief Minister from 20 May 2014 to 20 February 2015. He was the founding President of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM). Previously, he had served as minister for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes welfare in Nitish Kumar's cabinet. He has been a minister in several Bihar state governments, under multiple chief ministers like Chandrashekhar Singh, Bindeshwari Dubey, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, Jagannath Mishra, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. He is currently serving as Member of Parliament from Gaya.

Umesh Singh Kushwaha is a Former Member of Legislative Assembly in Bihar from Mahnar constituency. He is a member of Janata Dal (United). Kushwaha is the son of Vasudev Singh and hails from Kajri Bujurg village in the Vaishali district of Bihar. Mewalal Chaudhary was a leader of Janata Dal (United) and a minister for a brief period of time in the Nitish Kumar's cabinet. He was elected from the Tarapur assembly constituency to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2020, and was made a minister in charge of Education in the Bihar Government. Rajeev Kumar Singh is a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Tarapur constituency in the Bihar Legislative Assembly in India. He is a member of Janata Dal (United). He has been elected as the MLA on 2 November 2021. Singh got the ticket from Janata Dal (United) amidst the confusion over allocation of Tarapur constituency to Rohit Chaudhary, the younger brother of leader of opposition in Bihar Legislative Council, Samrat Chaudhary. The Tarapur constituency was the stronghold of Shakuni Choudhury, who had influence over Kushwaha voters, who are dominant in this assembly constituency. However, Rajiv Kumar Singh, himself a Kushwaha, was able to defeat his nearest rival in the bypolls of 2021.
Manoj Singh Kushwaha is a former minister of Bihar. Kushwaha was the Minor Water Resources minister in the Jitan Ram Manjhi cabinet in 2014–15. He contested from the Kurhani Assembly constituency in February 2005, November 2005 and 2010 legislative assembly elections, and was victorious.

In 2010 and 2015 assembly elections to Bihar Legislative Assembly, he won as a candidate of Janata Dal (United). In 2015 assembly elections, he defeated Ram Dev Varma of Communist Party of India (Marxist). However, in 2020 assembly elections, he lost to Ajay Kumar of Communist Party of India (Marxist). He has also served on the key position of the ruling party JDU, which includes the General Secretary of Bihar wing of Janata Dal (United).
Ramsewak Singh is an Indian politician and a member of the Janata Dal (United) political party. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Bihar Legislative Assembly for four consecutive terms. Singh, who represented the Hathua Assembly constituency, became a minister for the first time in the Nitish government in 2019. Prior to this, he had held the post of Chief Whip of the ruling JD(U) for two terms. He is a resident of Asnand Tola village of Uchkagaon block. Before becoming an MLA, he was also the head of Balesra Panchayat. After winning the election of Mukhiya, he became an MLA for the first time from Hathua Assembly under the symbol of Nitish Kumar's JD(U). This was followed by his four consecutive electoral victories for the membership of Bihar Legislative Assembly.
Surendra Prasad Singh also known as Surendra Singh Kushwaha is an Indian politician and former member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from Amarpur Assembly constituency in Banka district of Bihar. Singh has served as the member of Bihar Legislative Assembly for three terms. He won four elections from Amarpur constituency from 1995 to 2010, as a candidate of Rashtriya Janata Dal. He was defeated in 2010 assembly elections by Janardan Manjhi, which caused an end to his career as active politician.
