The 1968 Rugby League World Cup tournament was the fourth staging of the Rugby League World Cup and was held in Australia and New Zealand during May and June in 1968. Contested by the men's national rugby league football teams of the two host countries plus Great Britain and France, for the first time a final to determine the World Cup was specifically pre-arranged. Financially it was a profitable venture for the competing nations.

Rives was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor and the National Order of Merit by the government of France.

The French team won six matches, drew one and lost one. The two-match series against the Argentina national rugby union team was drawn, France winning the first game and Argentina the second, in front of a crowd of 50,000 spectators.

He played in his career first for XIII Catalan with which he won the double French Cup/Championship in 1969, and later, from 1972 for Pia with which he won the Lord Derby Cup in 1975. Cabero was also known by his nickname Le Sanglier des Albères.
