Jeff Wilbusch (born Iftach Wilbuschewitz, 14 November 1987) is an Israeli-German [1] actor.
Wilbusch was born on 14 November 1987 in Haifa, Israel. He grew up in the Hasidic Jewish Satmar community of Mea Shearim, Jerusalem. [2] [3] [4] Yiddish is his native language, and he is the eldest of 14 siblings. [5] [6]
He studied economics, and, in 2011, obtained a master's degree in international economics from the University of Amsterdam. [7] After finishing his graduate degree, he moved to Munich and studied theatre at the Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts until 2015. [8]
In 2018, he played the role of Anton Mesterbein in the BBC - AMC miniseries The Little Drummer Girl , and Noah Weisz in the German-Luxembourgish television series Bad Banks . In 2020, he portrayed Moishe Lefkovitch in the German-American Netflix original miniseries Unorthodox . [9] In 2021, he portrayed Uri Savir in the HBO motion picture Oslo and Gregor Grause in Dawn Breaks Behind the Eyes.[ citation needed ]

Yiddish, historically also Judeo-German, is a West Germanic language historically spoken by Ashkenazi Jews. It originated in 9th-century Central Europe, and provided the nascent Ashkenazi community with a vernacular based on High German fused with many elements taken from Hebrew and to some extent Aramaic. Most varieties of Yiddish include elements of Slavic languages and the vocabulary contains traces of Romance languages. Yiddish has traditionally been written using the Hebrew alphabet.
Chabad, also known as Lubavitch, Habad and Chabad-Lubavitch, is a dynasty in Hasidic Judaism. Belonging to the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) branch of Orthodox Judaism, it is one of the world's best-known Hasidic movements, as well as one of the largest Jewish religious organizations. Unlike most Haredi groups, which are self-segregating, Chabad mainly operates in the wider world and caters to nonobservant Jews.
Satmar is a group in Hasidic Judaism founded in 1905 by Grand Rebbe Joel Teitelbaum (1887–1979), in the city of Szatmárnémeti, Hungary. The group is a branch of the Sighet Hasidic dynasty. Following World War II, it was re-established in New York and has since grown to become one of the largest Hasidic dynasties in the world, comprising around 26,000 households.

Shmuel Rodensky was a Russian-born Israeli actor whose stage, film, and television career in Israel and West Germany spanned six decades. He immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1924 and studied drama at the Eretz Israel Theatre in Tel Aviv. After performing with several theatre companies between 1928 and 1948, he joined Habima Theatre in 1949 and became one of its principal players. He was known as "the Israeli Laurence Olivier". Her 2012 autobiography, Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots, tells the story of her escape from an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York, and was the basis of the 2020 Netflix miniseries Unorthodox.
