Weronika Tofilska (born 1985 [1] ) is a Polish director and screenwriter. She is best known for co-writing the 2024 romantic thriller film Love Lies Bleeding and for directing the first four episodes of the 2024 Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer , for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award.

Early life

Tofilska attended the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music  [ pl ] in Katowice and Emilia Plater High School  [ pl ] in Sosnowiec. [2] As a teenager, she volunteered at the New Horizons Film Festival. [3] [4] She bought her first camera, a Sony MiniDV camcorder, after watching Miloš Forman's Amadeus for the first time. [5]

She attended the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School before later graduating from the National Film and Television School in 2014. [6] [7]

Career

In 2019, she worked as a second unit director on an episode of Gangs of London . [7] In 2021, she directed two episodes of the crime drama television series The Irregulars . [8] [9] In 2022, she directed one episode of the fantasy drama series His Dark Materials . [10]

In 2024, she co-wrote the romantic thriller film Love Lies Bleeding with Rose Glass, whom she met while attending the National Film and Television School. [11] [12] That year, she also directed the first four episodes of the 2024 Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer . [13] For the series' fourth episode, she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. [14] [15]

The episode recounts Donny's early comedy career, when he was groomed and raped by a television writer named Darrien.
