The 4th Astra TV Awards, presented by the Hollywood Creative Alliance, were due to take place on August 18, 2024, at the Avalon Hollywood in Hollywood. The ceremony, produced by DIGA Studios and Content.23 Media, was due to be streamed live on the official Astra Awards YouTube channel and KNEKT Television Network. The nominations were announced on July 9, 2024. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] However, on August 18, affected parties were quietly informed that the event would be temporarily shelved. A public announcement was ultimately released via the Hollywood Creative Alliance social media account on Twitter at 6:39 p.m. PDT, 39 minutes after the event was due to begin live streaming, informing users that "due to a recent emergency, the Astra TV Awards have been postponed" and "a new date will be announced shortly". [6] The postponement came weeks after a proposed partnership with GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics. [7]
In terms of nominations, The Bear led with 15, followed by Hacks and Only Murders in the Building with 13 each; Abbott Elementary , Ghosts , and The Morning Show received 11 apiece. Channelwise, Netflix led the nominees with 66, followed by Apple TV+ with 44, ABC with 41 and CBS with 39. This year, the Astra TV Awards had more than 50 categories across broadcast network, cable, and streaming. [2]
Furthermore, a trio of new categories were introduced: "Best Anime Series", "Best Children or Family Series", and "Best Saturday Night Live Host". [2] [8] [9]

The TCA Award for Program of the Year is an award given by the Television Critics Association. It was first presented in 1985 with British television serial The Jewel in the Crown being the first recipient of the award. The category includes both drama and comedy television series as well as limited series.
The Dorian Awards are film, television and Broadway / Off-Broadway accolades given by GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, founded in 2009 as the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association. GALECA is an association of professional journalists and critics who regularly report on movies, TV and/or New York City stage productions for print, online, and broadcast outlets mainly in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The Hollywood Creative Alliance (HCA) is a 501 c6 membership-based non-profit organization of critics, entertainment journalists, content creators, industry influencers, and creatives. The vision and mission of the HCA is to amplify diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and culture within the world of entertainment. It was founded in 2016 as the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society and renamed in 2019 to Hollywood Critics Association. In 2023, Hollywood Critics Association ceased operations and a new organization called Hollywood Creative Alliance took its place, with its awards called the Astra Awards.
Hacks is an American comedy-drama television series created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky that premiered on May 13, 2021, on HBO Max. Starring Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins, the series centers on the professional relationship between a young comedy writer and a legendary stand-up comedian. Abbott Elementary is an American mockumentary sitcom television series created by Quinta Brunson for ABC. It stars Brunson as Janine Teagues, a perpetually optimistic second-grade teacher at the underfunded Abbott Elementary, a fictional predominantly Black school in Philadelphia. The creative arts awards were created as a companion to the Astra TV Awards to reward specific technical categories as well as categories that were previously presented at the main ceremony in 2021 and 2022.

The winners of the 7th Astra Midseason Movie Awards, presented by the Hollywood Creative Alliance, were revealed on July 3, 2024, on the association's official Twitter page. Previously presented as the Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Awards, this year's ceremony were the first midseason awards to be presented under the awards' current name: "Astra".
