Jefferson Township was organized in 1843. [2]
According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 28.35 square miles (73.4 km2), of which 28.29 square miles (73.3 km2) (or 99.79%) is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km2) (or 0.21%) is water. [1] The streams of Bethel Brook, Gander Run, Lake Branch and Sulphur Drain run through this township.
The township contains two cemeteries: Bethel and Sharp.
