Jenny Blundell (born 9 May 1994) is an Australian athlete who specialises in the middle-distance running. [1]
Blundell started in Little Athletics in the Under sixes at Cherrybrook in Sydney. She regularly broke state records. At 15, she won the national under-20 800m title. Blundell managed to secure selection for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010.. Here she was placed fifth in the 800m and fourth in the medley relay. In 2011 she got to the semi-finals at the World Youth (U18) Championships. [2]
The following year she was selected in the 1500m for the World Juniors (U20) Championships. Back in Australia she won the national junior cross country title. [2]
Blundell qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics where she reached the semi-final in the 1500 metres and placed 24th in Tokyo Olympics 5000 meters. After recovering from injury, she returned in early 2020 in a new event, the 5000m. Blundell ran a personal best 15:22.14 in the national championship, a 32-second PB in the event.
Blundell then ran a 4:07.71 1500m at the Zatopek in Melbourne. (Named after Emil Zatopek, the Czech long-distance runner, it is the most prestigious track race in Australia). [3] She then competed in the national 5000m title in March, 2021 and two solo runs 8:56.17 (3000m) and 15:10.27 (5000m). These results secured her selection for her second Olympic games. [2]
At the 2020 Olympics she came 11th in her 5000m heat with a time of 15:11.27. She was therefore eliminated. [4]
Blundell currently attends the University of Sydney after graduating from Cherrybrook Technology High School. She is coached by James Fitzgerald. [5]

Kate Suzanne Richardson is an Australian athlete, who represented her native country at the 1996 Summer Olympics and 2000 Summer Olympics in the women's 5000 metres making the Semi Finals. Richardson was a finalist in the 1997 World Championship 5000m, and also represented Australia in the 1999 World Championships plus numerous World Cross-Country Championships.
Shannon Solares-Rowbury is an American middle-distance runner from San Francisco, California. After competing collegiately for Duke University, she turned professional in 2007. Rowbury has represented the United States at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 2012. She also represented the United States at the World Championships in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, winning the bronze medal in the 1500 meters in 2009. In 2015, Rowbury helped set the world record with the U.S. team for the distance medley relay event, and set a then-American record for 1500 meters on July 17, 2015, breaking Mary Slaney's 32 year-old mark with a time of 3:56.29.
Jennifer Simpson is an American middle- and long-distance runner, formerly a steeplechaser. She won the gold medal in the 1500 meters at the 2011 World Championships, silvers at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships, and a bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the event.
Collis Birmingham is an Australian middle- and long-distance runner. He is a two-time participant at the Summer Olympics and four-time participant at the World Championships in Athletics. Madison de Rozario, is an Australian Paralympic athlete and wheelchair racer who specialises in middle and long-distance events. She competed at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Summer Paralympics, winning two gold medals, three silver and a bronze. She has also won ten medals at the World Para Athletics Championships and four gold at the Commonwealth Games. De Rozario holds the world record in the Women's 800m T53 and formerly in the Women's 1500m T53/54.
