Jerome Virgil Henderson (born August 8, 1969) is an American professional football coach and former player who most recently served as the defensive backs coach for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played in the NFL as a cornerback for the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets.
Henderson played college football for the Clemson Tigers and was selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL draft. [1] [2] He played in two Super Bowls; one with the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII and another with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI.
Henderson spent two years coaching defensive backs with the New York Jets.
Henderson went to Cleveland after his stint with the Jets, following head coach Eric Mangini. He spent three seasons as the Cleveland Browns' defensive backs coach. [3]
Henderson joined the Cowboys’ staff in 2012. Henderson was reunited with Rob Ryan, who served as the Browns' defensive coordinator from 2009 to 2010 before filling the same role for the Cowboys in 2011. Henderson left Dallas following the 2015 season. [4]
After interviewing for a head coach job with the Browns, Henderson ended up as a coach with the Falcons. [5] In the 2016 season, Henderson and the Falcons reached Super Bowl LI, where they faced the New England Patriots on February 5, 2017. In the Super Bowl, the Falcons fell in a 34–28 overtime defeat. [6] The Falcons dismissed Henderson after the 2019 season, his fourth working for the team. [7] He had served as Atlanta’s secondary coach/defensive passing game coordinator.
On January 21, 2020 the New York Giants hired Henderson to be the team’s defensive backs coach. [8] [9] Henderson has remained with the Giants under head coaches Joe Judge and Brian Daboll.
In May 2022, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale called Henderson "the best secondary coach in the league." [10]
In January 2024, Henderson interviewed for the Giants defensive coordinator job, vacated by Martindale. [11] While he did not get the job, he added the title of passing game coordinator. Henderson and the Giants parted ways on January 16, 2025. [12]
Henderson and his wife, Traci, have three children, Jazmin and twins Taylor and Tyler. [13]
Duane Charles "Bill" Parcells is an American former football coach who served as a head coach in the National Football League (NFL) for 19 seasons. He came to prominence as the head coach of the New York Giants from 1983 to 1990, where he won two Super Bowl titles. Parcells was later the head coach of the New England Patriots from 1993 to 1996, the New York Jets from 1997 to 2000, and the Dallas Cowboys from 2003 to 2006. Nicknamed "the Big Tuna", he is the only NFL coach to lead four different franchises to the playoffs and three to a conference championship game.
Harold Wade Phillips is an American football coach who is currently the head coach of the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (UFL). He has served as head coach of the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Roughnecks. He has also served as interim head coach for the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and the Houston Texans. Additionally, Phillips has long been considered to be among the best defensive coordinators in the NFL. In his long career, he has served as defensive coordinator in eight separate stints with seven different franchises. Multiple players under Phillips' system have won Defensive Player of the Year: Reggie White, Bryce Paup, Bruce Smith, J. J. Watt and Aaron Donald. Others under Phillips have won Defensive Rookie of the Year: Mike Croel and Shawne Merriman. In Phillips' lone Super Bowl victory, a defensive player would be named Super Bowl MVP: Von Miller.
Daniel Edward Reeves was an American professional football running back and coach in the National Football League (NFL). During his 38 years in the NFL, Reeves participated in nine Super Bowls, the third most for an individual. He was a head coach for 23 seasons, a position he held with the Denver Broncos from 1981 to 1992, the New York Giants from 1993 to 1996, and the Atlanta Falcons from 1997 to 2003. As a player, he spent his eight-season career with the Dallas Cowboys, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina in 1965.

Robert Allen Ryan is an American football coach who is currently an assistant head coach for the USC Trojans. Ryan has served as a defensive coordinator or assistant coach for nine different NFL teams. He was the linebackers coach for the New England Patriots when they won both Super Bowl XXXVI and Super Bowl XXXVIII. Ryan is the son of Buddy Ryan and the twin brother of Rex Ryan.
Kyle Michael Shanahan is an American professional football coach who is the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He came to prominence as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, whose offense in 2016 led the league in points scored and helped the team reach Super Bowl LI. Shanahan became the head coach of the 49ers the following season, leading the team to three division titles, four postseason appearances, four NFC Championship Game appearances, and two Super Bowl appearances.
Bryan Keith Cox Sr. is an American football coach and former player who currently serves as the assistant defensive line coach for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played as a linebacker in the NFL. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection with the Miami Dolphins, and was a member of the New England Patriots team that won Super Bowl XXXVI.
Todd Robert Bowles is an American professional football coach and former player who is the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He previously was the head coach of the New York Jets from 2015 to 2018. Bowles has also been the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals and Buccaneers and the secondary coach for the Jets, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and Philadelphia Eagles. Raheem Morris is an American professional football coach who is the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). Markus Dwayne Paul was an American professional football safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 1989 NFL draft. He also was a strength and conditioning coach with the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, New York Jets, New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Syracuse University.
Brian Francisco Flores is an American professional football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He began his NFL career with the New England Patriots, where he served as an assistant coach from 2008 to 2018. Flores was New England's defensive playcaller during his final season coaching for the team, which concluded with a victory in Super Bowl LIII. Following the victory, he served as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2021.
Joe Whitt Jr. is an American professional football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Auburn Tigers and has served as a defensive backs coach with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys.

He came to prominence as the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks from 2013 to 2014, helping craft a Cover 3 defense that featured the Legion of Boom secondary.
