Jessamy Helen Stoddart (born 20 June 1993) is an English actress. She is known for taking over the role of Liberty Savage in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks , having portrayed the role since 2018. Prior to joining the soap, Stoddart appeared in numerous theatre productions, including Legally Blonde , Mack and Mabel , Follies and Songs for a New World .

Early and personal life

Stoddart was born on 20 June 1993 in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. [1] [2] She studied at the National Youth Music Theatre and the Guildford School of Acting, graduating from the latter in 2014. [3] Stoddart announced her engagement to her long-term partner Ryan O'Gorman in December 2020. [4] The couple got married in November 2021. [5] In August 2022, Stoddart announced that she and O'Gorman were expecting their first child. Their daughter was born on 4 January 2023. [6]

Career

Stoddart began her career in stage productions and musicals, and portrayed characters such as Vivienne in Legally Blonde , Mabel in Mack and Mabel , a young Phyllis in Follies and Company in Songs for a New World . [7] She has also appeared in various ensemble roles and as an understudy in Little Women , Les Misérables and Wicked . [7] [8] In 2016, she made her television debut in an episode of the Channel 4 sitcom The Windsors , portraying a witch in the fourth episode of the first series. [9] [10]

In June 2018, Stoddart joined the cast of the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks , taking over the role of Liberty Savage, who had previously been portrayed by Abi Phillips. [11] [12] Since joining the soap, her storylines have included coming to terms with the death of the character's father Dirk Savage (David Kennedy), agreeing to be a surrogate and suffering from post-partum psychosis. [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] For her portrayal of Liberty, she was nominated for Best Comedy Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2019, but lost out to Sarah Moyle who plays Valerie Pitman in Doctors . [18]

Hollyoaks is a British soap opera which originally began airing on Channel 4 on 23 October 1995. It was created by Phil Redmond, who had previously conceived the soap opera Brookside. From 2005 to 2023, episodes have aired on sister channel E4 a day prior to their broadcast on Channel 4. In 2023, Hollyoaks was removed from Channel 4's early evening schedule, but remains on E4 and Channel 4's on demand service with episodes now uploaded to YouTube. At its inception, the soap was targeted towards an adolescent and young adult audience but it has since broadened its appeal to all age groups. Hollyoaks has covered various taboo subjects rarely seen on British television, for which it has received numerous awards. It has won the award for Best British Soap twice, in 2014 and 2019; its first win broke the 15-year tie between rival soap operas EastEnders and Coronation Street. Beginning with a cast of 15 characters, it now has 37 regular cast members. The longest-serving actor is Nick Pickard, who has portrayed Tony Hutchinson since the first episode.

Actress Helen Russell-Clark – who went on to play Jem Costello – originally auditioned for the role, but the part was awarded to Barlow. Producer Lucy Allan said Barlow was her favourite addition to the cast during 2009. She made her final appearance on 13 September 2011.

Texas Savage is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove. She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 17 May 2010. Texas was introduced by producer Paul Marquess as the on-screen sister of India Longford. Texas was initially portrayed as a "quite light and quite daft" character. Her first main storyline began in the aftermath of India's murder, her subsequent grief storyline and later being targeted by Silas Blissett. Texas has also featured in the online spin-off series, Hollyoaks: Freshers. In February 2013 it was announced that Texas would depart the serial as she was murdered in a "whodunit" storyline. She departed in a flashback on 13 May 2013 after it was revealed her husband, Will Savage, had pushed her out of the window at the wedding venue.

Liberty Savage is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by actress and singer-songwriter Abi Phillips from 2010 to 2013, and Jessamy Stoddart from 2018. She made her first on-screen appearance on 10 December 2010. Phillips was approached by Hollyoaks producers after she submitted one of her songs to be played on the show. Following a strong response to the song, producers invited her to audition for the role of Liberty, in which she was successful. Liberty was introduced to Hollyoaks along with her fiancé, Ethan Scott. After an absence of four months during 2013, it was announced that Liberty would be written out of the serial, and she departed on 24 July 2013. On 22 May 2018, it was announced that Liberty would return, but this time with Stoddart in the role, and she returned on 5 June 2018. Stoddart went on maternity leave in December 2022, with the character of Liberty set to return in 2024.

Patrick Blake is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Jeremy Sheffield. He made his first screen appearance on 21 November 2012. The character's introduction to the serial and Sheffield's casting were announced on 7 October 2012. Patrick is introduced as the biological father of established character Dodger Savage. Chloe is a fictional character from the British soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Susan Loughnane. The character made her first on-screen appearance on 12 August 2013. Loughnane had to audition for the role. Initially appearing in a small number of episodes, Loughnane returned to film new storylines. Chloe is introduced into the show as the mother of Matthew McQueen. The character has earned a reputation as a "serial surrogate mother" from selling her babies. Juliet was introduced as the half-sister of Romeo Nightingale and the daughter of Donna-Marie Quinn and was brought into the soap as part of the decision to expand their family. Clements' casting was announced on 19 October 2020, and the actress made her first appearance on 25 November 2020. Summer was introduced as the daughter of established character Cormac Ranger. Two sides of Summer's personality have been explored since her introduction, with scenes showing her to have "sweetness and light" to her, while also possessing a nasty side. Digital Spy wrote that her introduction would have troubling consequences for Brody Hudson, Warren Fox and Felix Westwood, all of whom were involved in an attack on her father. Summer was also billed as a "frenemy" for Sienna Blake, with who she later forms a romantic connection. After her 12-month contract with the soap had ended, it was announced that Clements would be departing from Hollyoaks.

She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 14 July 2023. Her casting was announced on 30 June 2023. Executive producer, Lucy Allan revealed that Dilly's introduction would explore her plans to "destroy" Sienna Blake. Dilly is initially introduced as the sister of Rafe Harcourt who would grow suspicious of Sienna's intentions with her "brother", believing her to be a gold-digger after the family fortune. She was later to be revealed as Rafe's wife, and the pair were set to ruin Sienna's life, but a reasoning behind as to why was left unrevealed. The character was then devised in a plot-twist as the estranged daughter of the deceased Patrick Blake who he abandoned during her early childhood in favour of Sienna – the reasoning behind her life-long vendetta.
