Sarah Moyle (born 14 September 1969) is an English actress. She is known for her role as Valerie Pitman in the BBC soap opera Doctors , for which she won the award for Best Comedy Performance at the 2019 British Soap Awards. She also has appeared in stage productions since the 1990s, with various West End and Broadway theatre credits. Moyle has also appeared in recurring television roles in Extras and Emmerdale .
Moyle trained at Bodywork Dance Studios, has a BA in Performance Art from Middlesex University, and studied for six months at State University of New York. [1] From 1988 to 1991, she was a member of National Youth Theatre. Moyle began her career in 1992 with roles in theatre, [2] her first being in Lust at Theatre Royal Haymarket, directed by Bob Carlton. In her early career, Moyle portrayed roles in An Inspector Calls , Oliver! , Les Misérables and My Fair Lady . She also made appearances in Drowning on Dry Land and Private Fears in Public Places , written for her by Sir Alan Ayckbourn. [3]
As well as her early stage appearances, Moyle was also making numerous television appearances in British series. Her television debut was in 1997, when she appeared in an episode of the BBC sitcom The Brittas Empire . [2] She kept making various minor appearances in series including Roger Roger , Born and Bred , City Lights and Ultimate Force , after which she held a recurring role in the BBC comedy series Extras from 2006 to 2007. [4] In 2009, Moyle played the role of Linda Fawcett in Jerusalem [5] at the Royal Court Theatre [6] and the Apollo Theatre, before taking it to Broadway at the Music Box Theatre. [7]
In 2012, Moyle was cast in the BBC daytime soap opera Doctors . [8] She made her first appearance as receptionist Valerie Pitman on 15 October 2012. Her role was initially recurring and she began with three brief stints as Valerie. In-between her Doctors appearances, she continued with theatre work, appearing in The Schoolmistress, A Bunch of Amateurs and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown . [2] Moyle was curious why the production team only wanted her to appear fleetingly year after year, but after a positive reception from viewers to Valerie, she was eventually promoted to a regular cast member. [9]
Moyle was nominated for Best Female Dramatic Performance and Best Comedy Performance at the 2016 British Soap Awards, but lost out to Lacey Turner and Patti Clare who play Stacey Fowler and Mary Taylor, respectively. [10] In 2018, she made her writing debut after writing an episode of Doctors, titled "The Wager", which aired on 31 May 2018. [11] In 2019, Moyle won Best Comedy Performance at the British Soap Awards. [12] In 2020, Moyle wrote another episode of Doctors, titled "Targeted Individual". [13] Moyle announced her decision to leave Doctors in August 2022. Her final episode aired on 16 December 2022. [14]
Following her exit from Doctors, Moyle appeared in an episode of the Britbox period series Sister Boniface Mysteries . [15] She then returned to theatre work when she toured the UK in the production Jumping the Shark. [16] Moyle then appeared in two Royal Shakespeare Company productions: The Empress and Falkland Sound . [17] [18] Afterwards, she starred in the King's Head Theatre's 2024 production of queer comedy Northbound Boy. [19]
In 2024, Moyle reunited with her former Doctors co-stars for an episode of the BBC programme Bargain Hunt . [20] [21] Later that year, Moyle returned to My Fair Lady, this time as Mrs Eynsford-Hill and Mrs Pearce at the Curve Theatre. [22] Her first role of 2025 saw her portray Queen Elizabeth II in Handbagged at the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch. [23]
In September 2018, Moyle cycled 282 km across Rwanda [24] to raise money and awareness for Hope and Homes for Children. She is also an advocate for the Alzheimer's Society, and ran the 2000 London Marathon to raise money for the charity. [25] In 2020, Moyle raised money for the charity of which she is patron, Embracing Arts, [26] by cycling 46 miles around London. [27]

Doctors is a British medical soap opera, first broadcast on BBC One on 26 March 2000, and concluded on 14 November 2024. Filmed in Birmingham and set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge, the soap follows the lives of the staff of both an NHS doctor's surgery and a university campus surgery, as well as the lives of their families and friends. Initially, only 41 episodes of the programme were ordered, but due to the positive reception, the BBC ordered it as a continuing soap opera. Doctors was filmed at the Pebble Mill Studios until 2004; production then relocated to the BBC Drama Village, where it filmed until 2024. Episodes are filmed three months prior to transmission. The show was typically broadcast Mondays to Thursdays at 2:00 pm on BBC One, as well as having classic episodes broadcast on Drama. It took three annual transmission breaks across the year: at Easter, during the summer and at Christmas.
Anne Reid is an English stage, film and television actress, known for her roles as Valerie Barlow in the soap opera Coronation Street (1961–1971); Jean in the sitcom dinnerladies (1998–2000); and her role as Celia Dawson in Last Tango in Halifax (2012–2020) for which she was nominated for the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress.
Elisabeth Dermot Walsh is an English actress, known for her role as Zara Carmichael in the BBC soap opera Doctors. In 2015, she won the award for Best Female Acting Performance at the RTS Midlands Awards for her portrayal of Zara. Since 2024, she has hosted the podcast Chicken Soap for the Soul.
Jan Pearson is an English actress. Pearson grew up in Wollaston, West Midlands, and began her career in various stage productions. She yearned to work in television and was soon cast as Kath Fox in the BBC medical drama Holby City in 1999, a role she stayed in until 2004. She then ventured back into theatre, before joining the BBC soap opera Doctors as Karen Hollins. For her role in Doctors, Pearson won the award for Best On-Screen Partnership twice alongside Chris Walker, at the 2010 and 2023 British Soap Awards. Pearson left Doctors in 2023.
Dr. Jimmi Clay is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Adrian Lewis Morgan. The actor joined the cast shortly after his role in Holby City came to an end. Morgan was a fan of the soap and was pleased to audition for a regular part. He made his first appearance during the episode broadcast on 5 September 2005 and has gone on to become the programme's longest serving cast member. Upon his introduction, Jimmi is portrayed as being recently separated from his wife and being new to the medical profession. Jimmi has obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and Morgan carried out his own research into the disorder to help his portrayal. He later admitted that Jimmi's OCD had begun to impact his own life.
Imogen Hollins is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Charlie Clemmow. Before her first appearance, Imogen is mentioned by her on-screen mother Karen ; Clemmow watched the episode and wrote a letter to the BBC asking if they would be casting actresses for the role of Imogen. She made continued contact with the BBC and was eventually invited to audition for Imogen, and despite having no agent, she was cast in the role and made her first appearance on 4 August 2009. She is introduced as the daughter of Karen and Rob Hollins and the sister of Jack Hollins.

Izzie Torres is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors. Izzie has been played by four actresses since her onscreen arrival; Jasmin and Nicole Parkinson between 2008 and 2011, Maizey Corbett in 2012, and Bethan Moore from 2018 to 2022. Her storylines in the programme have included being left in the Mill Health Centre as a baby, being kidnapped, her feud with Zara Carmichael, becoming an environmental activist, coming out as pansexual and being the victim of online trolling. "Can You Hear Me?" is an episode of the British television soap opera Doctors, broadcast on BBC One on 12 June 2020. It marks the first episode in soap opera history to be filmed solely using mobile devices, and was self-shot by cast members from their homes as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down production of Doctors. The episode centres around the colleagues of the fictional Mill Health Centre and St Phils hospital dealing with lockdown, and features appearances from relatives of the characters. The scenes take place after the colleagues have been to work, where they discuss the professional and personal impacts of the pandemic on their lives via video chat. The episode also covers regular character Ruhma Carter suffering from COVID-19.
Luca McIntyre is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Ross McLaren. Luca is introduced to the series on 24 February 2021 following the departure of nurse Ayesha Lee the year prior. McLaren's acting credits confirmed that he had been contracted as a series regular on the soap. McLaren felt thrilled to be cast on Doctors and has described Luca as a cheeky and lovely character who would "go the extra mile" to help a patient. Laura Beatrice White is an English actress. Following stage roles including starring as Sandra Wilkinson in a UK tour of The Play That Goes Wrong, White appeared in the BBC soap opera Doctors as Princess Buchanan from 2022 to 2023. For her role as Princess, she was nominated for the British Soap Award for Villain of the Year twice. From 2023 to 2024, White starred in a touring production of Murder in the Dark.
Jessamy Helen Stoddart is an English actress. She is known for taking over the role of Liberty Savage in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, having portrayed the role since 2018. Prior to joining the soap, Stoddart appeared in numerous theatre productions, including Legally Blonde, Mack and Mabel, Follies and Songs for a New World.

The ceremony was held on 1 June 2019 at the Lowry theatre in Salford Quays, Salford, and was broadcast live on ITV1 and STV. The publicly voted categories were announced on 9 April 2019, with the vote opening that same day. This included a longlist for the Best Actress and Actor awards. The shortlist, including panel nominations, was released on 30 April 2019, alongside tickets for the ceremony being made available for sale.
