Jikmir is a Payam within the Nasir County of Upper Nile State in the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan. [1] [2] [3] The main town in Jikmir Payam is Jikmir, with a population of approximately 10,000 to 20,000. [4] The town is located 15 miles west of the Ethiopian border, Gambella Region. Jikmir Payam expands from the town of Kierwan to most western to the Ethiopian town of Burebiey across the Sobat river. The ethnicity of people in Jikmir is a predominantly Nuer ethnic group who speak Nuer or Thoknath.
Jikmir Football Club(JFC) also called Jikmir Joklech is one of football club in Nasir county. Jikmir Joklec won 2021 and 2022 County cup where they represented Nasir county in State tournament.
During the Sudan Civil War from 1983 to 2005, Jikmir served as the primary military town for SPLA soldiers as they battled the Khartoum government in Nasir. From 1983 to 1989, Jikmir hosted key senior officers such as CDR William Nyuon Bany, CDR Koang Chuol Kulang, and CDR Steven Duol Chuol Lual until the fall of Nasir town in 1989.
During South Sudan Civil War of 2013–Present, Jikmir serves as major city for internally displaced persons(IDPs) around Nasir county [5] [6]

The primary governmental body in Jikmir includes Payam leadership, traditional Chiefs, and the town Police Chief. The major institutions in Jikmir are Stephen Duol Primary School, Jikmir Presbyterian Church, and Jikmir Payam Compound.
Bor is a historic city in the Bor County of Jonglei State, in the Greater Upper Nile region of South Sudan, being the epicenter of national liberation revolution with multiple landmarks that tells the story. In Malual-Chaat barrack, statues of liberators and destroyed weapons are conserved and exhibited at historical heritage site. It has also served as the headquarters of Jonglei state. The city is situated on the east side of the White Nile at the southern extent of the sudd, South Sudan's vast central wetlands.

The SPLA-Nasir was a splinter faction of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), a rebel group that fought in the Second Sudanese Civil War. Originally created as an attempt by the Nuer tribe to replace SPLA leader John Garang in August 1991, it gradually became coopted by the government. The break away of Riek Machar from SPLM/A resulted in Nuer ethnic group massacring Garang's ethnic Dinka from Bor in the Bor massacre in 1991. This split resulted in the 1994 National Convention of New Sudan in Chukudum.

The Adar oilfield, also known as the Adar Yale, Adar Yeil or Adaril field, is an oilfield situated in the Melut in South Sudan estimated to contain about 276 million barrels (43,900,000 m3) of oil. The Chevron Corporation discovered the Adar Yale field in 1981, shortly before the start of the Second Sudanese Civil War (1983–2005). Soon after Chevron had suspended operations in 1984, Sudanese government troops began attacking civilian settlements in the area, burning the houses and driving the people away, and in the late 1990s, Nuer militias from Nasir helped the army in clearing away the people to make way for the roads and infrastructure of the oilfield.

Ngok Lual Yak is an African sub-tribe, within the Jiëŋ (Dinka) group. They are mainly found in Malakal, South Sudan and inhabit the land along the confluences of the Nile and Sobat rivers. It is believed that the sub-tribe numbers about 95,000. They are devoted ethnics and believe in Deŋdit as their provider. Some of Ngok sections are part of Bor Community and sections who identifies themselves as descendants of Ngok could still be traced!
