James Steineke (born November 23,1970) is a Wisconsin real estate agent and Republican politician from Kaukauna,Wisconsin. He was the majority leader of the Wisconsin State Assembly from January 2015 until his resignation from the Assembly in July 2022. He had represented Wisconsin's 5th Assembly district since 2011.
Born in Milwaukee,Wisconsin,Steineke attended the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He worked as a realtor.
He was a member of the board of supervisors for the town of Vandenbroek from 2005 to 2007,and was chairman of the town board from 2007 to 2011. He also served on the Outagamie County board of supervisors from 2006 to 2011.
Steineke was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2010 in the Wisconsin's 5th Assembly district,which then comprised much of eastern Outagamie County,the Town of Maple Grove in Shawano County,and part of western Brown County. [1] [2] He succeeded Democrat Tom Nelson,who had decline running for re-election to seek election as lieutenant governor. He has identified himself as a proponent of limited government and lower taxes. [3]
In November 2020,Steineke was re-elected as the Assembly Majority Leader by his GOP colleagues. [4]
In March 2021,Steineke applauded the conservative majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court for preventing Governor Tony Evers from extending a face mask mandate intended to halt the spread of the coronavirus. [5]
In January 2022,Steineke announced he would not run for re-election in 2022. [6] After announcing his retirement,he denounced the 2020 election review recommendations of Michael Gableman,saying that Gableman's suggestion that the legislature could "decertify the 2020 election" "would be the end of our republic as we know it." [7]
The 2006 Wisconsin gubernatorial election was held on November 7,2006. Incumbent Democratic Governor Jim Doyle ran for re-election to a second term in office. Doyle was unopposed in the Democratic primary,and he faced U.S. Representative Mark Green,who was unopposed in the Republican primary,in the general election. The campaign between Doyle and Green was competitive and hotly contested,but Doyle,whose approval ratings hovered around 50%,had the upper hand. In the end,Doyle defeated Green by a fairly comfortable margin,improving on his 2002 victory in the process.

Thomas M. Nelson is an American public administrator and politician serving as the county executive of Outagamie County,Wisconsin,since 2011. A member of the Democratic Party,Nelson previously served in the Wisconsin State Assembly for six years,and was the Democratic majority leader for the 2009–2010 session. He was a candidate in the 2022 Democratic primary election for the United States Senate,he withdrew from the race in late July and endorsed Mandela Barnes.

The Wisconsin State Assembly elections of 2022 were held on Tuesday,November 8,2022. All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly were up for election. This was the first and only election to take place after redistricting following the 2020 United States census,where the courts had put in place maps set out in the Johnson decision. Before the election,61 Assembly seats were held by Republicans and 38 seats were held by Democrats. The primary election was held on August 9,2022.
The 2023 Wisconsin Spring Election was held in the U.S. state of Wisconsin on April 4,2023. The featured race at the top of the ticket was for an open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court,which became the most expensive judicial election in history. Several other nonpartisan local and judicial offices were also decided on the April 4 ballot,including mayoral elections in some of Wisconsin's larger cities—Green Bay,Madison,and Racine. In addition,a special election was held in the 8th State Senate district,concurrent with the Spring elections. The 2023 Wisconsin Spring Primary was held February 21,2023.
