Written, produced, and directed by Kelly, the series tells a story of a one-night stand that sets off a chain of events, gradually revealing a greater web of lies, sex and deceit. The music follows a distinct E major pattern, and most chapters feature the same melodic theme.

"Trapped in the Closet" is the twelfth episode in the ninth season of the American animated television series South Park. The 137th episode of the series overall, it originally aired on Comedy Central in the United States on November 16, 2005. In the episode, Stan joins Scientology in an attempt to find something "fun and free". After the discovery of his surprisingly high "thetan levels", he is recognized as the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the church. The episode was written and directed by series co-creator Trey Parker, who was credited as John Smith. The title is a reference to the R. Kelly serialized song of the same name and a satirized version of R. Kelly appears in the episode.

Trapped in the Closet: Chapters 23–33 is a 2012 series of music videos and the third installment of the Trapped in the Closet series by R&B artist R. Kelly. In a then-recent interview, Kelly said the new installment would feature 11 new chapters when it premiered, along with another 30, which would be filmed in January 2013. When this saga premiered, it featured the return of several cast members, including the main character, Sylvester, played by Kelly.

Kelly dedicated this book to his mother, who died in the early 1990s, and his high school music teacher, Lena McLin. Trapped in the Closet: The Confessionals is a miniseries posted on the R. Kelly Vevo YouTube channel. The miniseries is the confessionals from Chapters 23 - 33 with added clips from the Trapped in the Closet series. It was used to promote the new chapters that came out at the time. The only confessionals not used in the series yet are Cathy, Rosie, and Randolph.
