Joan Welsh

Joan W. Welsh (born June 17, 1940) is an American politician. She served in the Maine House of Representatives for the 94th District, representing Camden, Rockport, and Islesboro from 2008 until 2016. [1] [2] She is a member of the Democratic Party. District 94 used to be District 46, until the rezoning of districts came along shortly after 2012.

Joan Welsh attended Pomona College and University of Colorado. She has a bachelor's degree in English. [3]

Penobscot River

The Penobscot River is a 109-mile-long (175 km) river in the U.S. state of Maine. Including the river's West Branch and South Branch increases the Penobscot's length to 264 miles (425 km), making it the second-longest river system in Maine and the longest entirely in the state. Its drainage basin contains 8,610 square miles (22,300 km2).

Maine House of Representatives

The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 8,800 citizens of the state. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine House of Representatives usually have outside employment as well. Members are limited to four consecutive terms of two years each, but may run again after two years.

William D. Williamson American politician (1779–1846)

William Durkee Williamson was the second Governor of the U.S. state of Maine, and one of the first congressmen from Maine in the United States House of Representatives. He was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party. Williamson was also an early historian of Maine.

Sears Island, known as Wassumkeag or shining beach by the indigenous Wabanaki tribes of northern New England, is located off the coast of Searsport in Waldo County, Maine, at the top of Penobscot Bay. The island is the largest undeveloped, uninhabited, causeway-accessible island on the eastern coast of the United States. It is 940 acres (3.8 km2) in area. It is part of the Town of Searsport.

WQSS is a radio station licensed to Camden, Maine with studios in Augusta, Maine. The station, owned by Blueberry Broadcasting, broadcasts an adult contemporary format simulcast with WKSQ in Ellsworth and WQSK in Madison.

Bay Chamber Concerts

Bay Chamber Concerts is a non-profit organization located in downtown Rockport, Maine. Bay Chamber Concerts plays a principal role in bringing music, particularly classical music, to the Mid Coast area. During the months of July and August Bay Chamber Concerts hosts a Summer Music Festival bringing an assortment of musical groups to the Rockport Opera House and surrounding venues. In addition, from September to June, Bay Chamber brings various performers to the Camden, Rockport and Rockland area through their Performing Arts Series. Bay Chamber Music School offers private instruction and group classes to all ages and abilities, regardless of ability to pay. The organization is committed to offering many free programs to the community and especially to those who otherwise have no access to live performance and music education.

WKSQ Radio station in WQSS: Camden, Maine

WKSQ is a radio station broadcasting an Adult contemporary format. Licensed to Ellsworth, Maine, United States, the station serves the Bangor area. The station is currently owned by Blueberry Broadcasting. The station used to air The John Tesh Radio Show up to June 2009. WKSQ also airs Maine Black Bears football and men's hockey, sharing flagship status of the Black Bear Sports Network with WAEI. WKSQ's programming is also simulcast in the Skowhegan market on WQSK in Madison, which was formerly part of Fox Sports Maine, and in the Mid Coast area on WQSS in Camden, which formerly offered its own adult contemporary format.

Warren Island State Park

Warren Island State Park is state-owned island and public recreation area on Penobscot Bay in the town of Islesboro, Waldo County, Maine. The 70-acre (28 ha) state park sits about ½-mile from Islesboro Island and 3 miles (4.8 km) offshore from the mainland at Lincolnville. The island was acquired by the state of Maine for one dollar in 1959. Hiking trails, campsites, and open-faced shelters are found on the island; a pier allows access by private boat.

Emily Ann Cain is an American politician from Maine and Executive Director of EMILY's List. A member of the Democratic Party, Cain served in the Maine Senate from 2012 to 2014, representing the 30th district which includes part of Penobscot County. She was previously a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 2004 to 2012, where she served as Minority Leader from 2008 to 2010 and as House Chair of the Appropriations & Financial Affairs Committee from 2010 to 2012.

Miramant served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2006-2008 and was first elected to the Senate in 2014. Miramant is a career pilot: He flew commercial Boeing 767s at Delta Air Lines and has owned and operated a glider ride service on coastal Maine since 2005.

Michelle Ann Dunphy is an American politician from Maine. A Democrat from Old Town, Dunphy represents District 122 of the Maine House of Representatives, which encompasses Old Town and Penobscot Indian Island Reservation of Penobscot County. Dunphy was elected for the first time in 2014. Re-elected in 2016, 2018, and 2020, she was also chosen as Majority Leader of the House in her final term.

<i>Surprise</i> (schooner) United States historic place

Surprise is a two-masted former racing schooner berthed in Camden, Maine. Built in 1917-18 in Rockport, Massachusetts, she is one of a small number of surviving schooners designed by noted naval architect Thomas F. McManus. She currently serves as a "windjammer", providing daily cruises in Penobscot Bay. She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Genevieve McDonald

Genevieve Kurilec McDonald is an American Democratic politician, lobster boat captain, and fisheries advocate from Maine. In 2018, she was the first female commercial fisherman to be elected to the Maine House of Representatives. McDonald represents House District #134: Cranberry Isles, Deer Isle, Frenchboro, Isle au Haut, North Haven, Southwest Harbor, Stonington, Swan's Island, Tremont, Vinalhaven, and Marshall Island. In 2013, she successfully led a social media campaign to prompt fishing gear producer Grundéns to produce commercial fishing gear for women. In June 2014, McDonald became the first woman to serve on the Maine Department of Marine Resources Lobster Advisory Council (LAC).
