Middlesex County is a county located in the north-central part of the U.S. state of New Jersey,extending inland from the Raritan Valley region to the northern portion of the Jersey Shore. As of the 2020 United States census,the county was the state's third-most populous county with a population of 863,162,its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 53,304 (+6.6%) from the 2010 census count of 809,858,which in turn reflected an increase of 59,696 (8.0%) from the 750,162 counted in the 2000 census. Middlesex is part of the New York metropolitan area. Many communities within the county serve as commuter towns to and from New York City and other points north. Monroe Township is a township located in southern Middlesex County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The township is centrally located within the Raritan Valley region and is an outer-ring suburb of New York City within the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2020 United States census,the township's population was 48,594,its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 9,462 (+24.2%) from the 39,132 recorded at the 2010 census,which in turn reflected an increase of 11,133 (+39.8%) from the 27,999 counted in the 2000 census. Monroe Township also comprises the largest land area of any municipality in Middlesex County,at approximately 42 square miles (110 km2).

As of the 2010 Census,the township was ranked 18th in the state by population,after being the state's 21st most-populous municipality in 2000. Perth Amboy is a city in northeastern Middlesex County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey,within the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2020 United States census,the city's population was 55,436. Perth Amboy is known as the "City by the Bay",referring to its location adjoining Raritan Bay.

Joseph Vas is an American Democratic Party politician,who has served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2004 to 2010,where he represented the 19th Legislative District. He did not seek re-election to the assembly in 2009. He also served as Mayor of Perth Amboy,New Jersey from 1990 to 2008. He was defeated for re-election to a 5th full term by local bank vice president Wilda Diaz in 2008 by a 58% to 42% margin. He was elected Perth Amboy Democratic Chairman in 2008,succeeding his longtime campaign chairman Ray Geneske. Vas resigned as the party chairman in 2009. He was convicted of state corruption charges in 2010 and federal corruption charges in 2011.
Jennifer Beck is an American Republican Party politician who served in the New Jersey State Senate representing the 11th Legislative District from 2012 to 2018. Prior to redistricting,she served in the Senate from 2008 to 2012 representing the 12th Legislative District,serving portions of Monmouth and Mercer counties. Beck represented the 12th District in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2006 to 2008.
Perth Amboy High School is a four-year comprehensive community public high school which serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Perth Amboy in Middlesex County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey,operating as the lone secondary school of the Perth Amboy Public Schools. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928.

Thomas S. Smith was an American Republican Party politician,who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1992 until his death in 2002,where he represented the 11th legislative district. At the time of his death,Smith was the oldest serving member of the Assembly and was the only African American Republican in the New Jersey Legislature.
Wilda Diaz is an American former politician and Mayor of Perth Amboy,New Jersey. She was elected in May 2008,defeating incumbent Joseph Vas by a 58% to 42% margin. She was Perth Amboy's first female mayor and New Jersey's first Latina mayor. She served for 12 years from 2008 until 2020.
Craig John Coughlin is an American Democratic Party politician,who has represented the 19th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since 2010. He has served as the Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly since 2018. He is the longest serving Speaker of the General Assembly in History.
Arline M. Friscia was an American politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1996 to 2004,where she represented the 19th Legislative District. Originally elected as a Democrat,Friscia switched to the Republican Party in 2003 after losing organization support for her re-election bid from the Democratic Party in that year's primary.
William E. Flynn is an American politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1974 to 1986. He had also served as mayor of Old Bridge Township.
Serena DiMaso is an American Republican Party politician who represented the 13th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2018 to 2022. She replaced Declan O'Scanlon,who ran successfully for a seat in the New Jersey Senate. DiMaso had previously served on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and as mayor of Holmdel Township. In June 2021,DiMaso lost the Republican Primary to Holmdel Board of Education President Vicky Flynn. DiMaso left office in January 2022.
Edward H. Thomson III is an American Republican Party politician who represented the 30th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly from August 24,2017 to January 9,2024. He replaced Dave Rible,who left office to serve as Director of the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Thomson had previously served as mayor of Wall Township. He has served since 2022 as the Minority Conference Leader in the General Assembly.
