Joseph James Norita Camacho (born 1968/1969) is a politician from the Northern Mariana Islands. He is an incumbent judge on the Northern Mariana Islands Superior Court,the commonwealth's trial court,and has served there since 2011. Prior,he was a member of the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives. [1]
Camacho was born to parents Vicente (Ben Dinga) Tudela Camacho and Marcy Lieto Norita Camacho,both of whom are now deceased. He was raised by Torcauto Borja Tudela. Camacho's wife is Ellsbeth Viola Alepuyo. The couple have one child,Ulen Joseph Vicente Alepuyo Camacho. [2]
Camacho graduated from Marianas High School in June 1987. He received an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Northern Marianas College in May 1992. In December 1994,Camacho further obtained a bachelor's degree in history from San Jose State University in California. [3]
Camacho continued his education by earning his master's degree in public administration [1] from Seattle University,a Jesuit institution in Washington state,in December 1998. Camacho completed his Juris Doctor at the Gonzaga University School of Law,located in Spokane,Washington,in December 2001. He worked as a pizza delivery man and a dishwasher during college. [1]
Camacho worked as a police officer on Saipan for three years [1] from January 1989 to August 1991.
Joseph Camacho,a Republican,was elected to the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives in the 2007 general election. [1] In the 2007 election,the Covenant Party lost control of the House to the Republicans. Camacho was chosen as the floor leader of the new 16th House of Representatives. He did not seek reelection in 2009.
Democrat gubernatorial candidate Juan "Pan" Guerrero approached Camacho,a Republican,in 2009 and asked him to run on his ticket for Lieutenant Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. [1] Camacho accepted Guerrero's offer to run as part of the Independent ticket,which he called a "partnership." [1] The acceptance ceremony for the gubernatorial campaign took place on March 10,2009,at Tan Marikita Caféin Garapan. [1] Camacho explained in his speech to supporters that he had weighed all his political options before agreeing to run for Lieutenant Governor with Guerrero [1] Camacho thanked Guerrero for the opportunity,noting that Guerrero had promised to make both the campaign and a potential administration a full "partnership." [1] The Guerrero/Camacho ticket only received 2,643 votes and came in a distant third in the polling. Camacho announced in March 2010 his intentions to run for United States Congress as a candidate for the Covenant Party. [4]
In 2011,Governor Benigno Fitial appointed Camacho to the serve as a judge of the Superior Court,the trial level courts for the Northern Mariana Islands. Camacho was confirmed by the Northern Mariana Islands Senate unanimously. He was sworn in November 19,2011,taking his oath in Carolinian. [5] Camacho succeeded Ramona Villagomez Manglona who was appointed to serve as a judge for the United States District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands. [5] He was retained in 2016 with 78% of the votes cast and in 2022 with 75% of the votes cast. [6]
Juan Nekai Babauta is a Northern Mariana Islander politician who served as the sixth governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from January 14,2002,to January 9,2006.
The Covenant Party was a political party in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) advocating governmental and financial reform. It was named after the Covenant to Establish a Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Political Union with the United States of America,Act of Mar. 24,1976,Pub. L. 94-241,90 Stat. 263,codified as amended at 48 U.S.C. §1801 note. In the legislative elections of 2003,the Covenant Party won nine of eighteen seats. The party mostly made up of members from the Republican Party,but many prominent Democrats would also join the party. In the 2005 general elections,the Covenant Party increased its position as one of the strongest parties in the Commonwealth when Benigno R. Fitial,the party's gubernatorial candidate,won the election. The Covenant Party won seven of eighteen seats in the commonwealth's House of Representatives and three of nine seats in its Senate. In the Commonwealth Legislature 2007 elections,the Covenant Party won only four of twenty seats in the House of Representatives.

Benigno Repeki Fitial is a Northern Marianan politician who served was the seventh governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. The second longest-serving governor in CNMI history,Fitial was elected on November 6,2005,assumed office on January 9,2006,and was re-elected to a (five-year) second term in 2009. He was impeached by the CNMI House of Representatives on February 11,2013,and was scheduled to face trial before the CNMI Senate to determine if he should be removed from office. He resigned on February 20,2013,after 7 years,1 month,and 11 days in office.

Inos,who served as lieutenant governor from 2009 to 2013,first became Governor following the resignation of his predecessor,Benigno Fitial.

Marian Deleon Guerrero Tudela is a Northern Mariana Islands politician who served as the mayor of Saipan,the capital of the Commonwealth,from June 2014 until January 2015. She was appointed mayor of Saipan by Governor Eloy Inos to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Donald Flores following his death in office. Tudela is the first female mayor of Saipan,as well as the first woman to serve as mayor of any Northern Mariana Islands municipality in history.
The 2001 Northern Mariana Islands general election was held on Saturday,3 November 2001,electing the governor and members to the legislature. The 2001 elections marked the last general election that the dissolved Reform Party,which merged back into the Democratic Party in 2002,would appear on the ballot. Despite the economic hardships experienced under Pedro Pangelinan Tenorio's Administration,the apparent strength the 1999 general elections signaled that the Democratic Party and its splinter Reform Party had,and the newly formed Covenant Party which was formed as a splinter party from the ruling Republican Party,Republican candidate Juan Nekai Babauta won with a landslide in the four-way race. Benigno Repeki Fitial's newly formed Covenant Party landed a distant yet sizable second place. Jesus Borja of the Democratic Party won a distant third and Froilan Tenorio of the Reform Party placed fourth.
Camacho, 42, is the first judge of Carolinian descent to be elevated to the CNMI Courts.
