Joseph David Nosef,III (born December 14,1968) is an American lawyer and politician from Mississippi. [4] and former chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party.
Nosef was born in Clarksdale in northwestern Mississippi, [4] the son of Mayor Joseph D. Nosef,Jr.,and educator Joyce Nosef. [5] His father died in 1975,and his mother was left to rear him.
Nosef earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting at the University of Mississippi in 1991 and 1994,respectively. [6] He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi in 1995,and was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1996. [6] He also holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida which he received in 1996. [6]
He is a practicing Roman Catholic,is married,and has two daughters. [7]
Nosef's first political involvement was with the Hinds County Republican Party,where he has served on the executive committee since 2000. [6]
He served as the Chief Counsel to Governor Haley Barbour from 2004-2006 [6] until he resigned to run Barbour's 2007 re-election campaign. [8] In 2008,he served as Chief of Staff to Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, [6] and led the gubernatorial transition campaign after Bryant was elected governor in the 2011 election. [8]
In 2012,Mississippi Republican Party chairman Arnie Hederman resigned. Nosef was elected for the remainder of Hederman's term on January 11,2012, [7] and elected to a full four-year term in May 2012. [8]
Haley Reeves Barbour is an American attorney,politician,and lobbyist who served as the 63rd Governor of Mississippi from 2004 to 2012. A member of the Republican Party,he served as chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1993 to 1997.

The Republican primary required a runoff between Cochran and Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel on June 24,2014. After narrowly winning the runoff,Cochran defeated Democratic nominee Travis Childers,a former congressman,with 60% of the vote.

The 2018 United States Senate special election in Mississippi took place on November 6,2018,to elect a United States Senator from Mississippi. The election was held to fill the seat vacated by Senator Thad Cochran when he resigned from the Senate,effective April 1,2018,due to health concerns. Republican governor Phil Bryant appointed Cindy Hyde-Smith to fill the vacancy created by Cochran's resignation. Hyde-Smith sought election to serve the balance of Cochran's term,which expired in January 2021.
