Joey Lynch (born October 17, 1983) is an American football coach who is a senior offensive analyst for Texas A&M. He was previously the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Vanderbilt University after previously holding the passing game coordinator role with the team. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator at Colorado State University. He played college football at Ball State University, where he was also a longtime assistant coach.
Lynch played quarterback at Ball State from 2003 to 2006 after being recruited by his father Bill. He never played for his father in college however, as the elder Lynch was let go after the 2002 season and Brady Hoke was named the new football head coach for the 2003 season. He was named the starting quarterback his sophomore year and remained the starter until his playing career ended in 2006. [1] He finished his career at Ball State with 4,932 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. [2]
After his playing career ended, Lynch initially accepted a position as a graduate assistant on the Ball State coaching staff, but instead decided to accept a position at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. [3] He held this position for one year before joining the coaching staff at Ashland University as the offensive coordinator in 2008.
Lynch joined the coaching staff at his alma mater Ball State as a wide receivers coach in 2009, and was later named the recruiting coordinator in 2010. [4] He was retained by newly hired head coach Pete Lembo in 2010 and shifted to coaching the tight ends position and recruiting coordinator for the 2011 season. [5]
He was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in December 2013 after Rich Skrosky accepted the head coaching position at Elon. [6]
Lynch added the title of assistant head coach in 2019. He was named a Broyles Award nominee in 2019 after guiding Ball State to a top 25 offense in terms of total yards. [7]
Lynch was named the offensive coordinator at Colorado State in 2020. [8]
Lynch was hired as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator at Vanderbilt under first-year head coach Clark Lea. [9] Following the 2023 season, it was announced that Lynch would not return to the program for 2024. [10]
Lynch and his wife Danielle have six children. [11] Lynch's father Bill was the head coach at Ball State and Indiana. [12] His younger brother Kevin was also an assistant coach at Ball State and succeeded Lynch as offensive coordinator following the latter's departure from the program in 2020. [13]
Karl James Dorrell is an American football coach. He has been the head coach for the UCLA Bruins and Colorado Buffaloes, being named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year for both. Dorrell led the UCLA Bruins to five bowl appearances and was the first African American head football coach in their history.
Troy McHenry Walters is an American football coach and former player who is the wide receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). Walters played as a wide receiver and punt returner in the National Football League (NFL) for eight seasons. Walters played college football for the Stanford Cardinal, earning consensus All-American honors and winning the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the season's outstanding college football receiver. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings, and also played for the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions of the NFL.
Shane Montgomery is an American college football coach and former player. He is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the University of Massachusetts Amherst, positions he has held since 2024. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University at Buffalo. Montgomery served as the head football coach at Miami University from 2005 to 2008, compiling a record of 17–31.
Andy Ludwig is an American football coach who was most recently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Utah. He played college football at Snow College and Portland State University, graduating in 1988.
Bill Lynch is a former American football coach. He was most recently the head football coach at DePauw University, a position he held in 2004 and re-assumed in December 2012 until his retirement after the 2019 season. Lynch also served as the head football coach at Butler University (1985–1989), Ball State University (1995–2002), and Indiana University Bloomington (2007–2010). He was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
Kevin Reece Wilson is an American college football coach and former player. He was the head coach at the University of Tulsa from 2023–2024. He was the offensive coordinator at Ohio State University from 2017 to 2022. Wilson was head coach at Indiana University from 2011 to 2016, and offensive coordinator at the University of Oklahoma from 2002 to 2010.
Robert Michael Bobo is an American college football coach who is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Georgia, his alma mater. He was the head coach at Colorado State from 2015 to 2019.
Jeff Grimes is an American football coach, and the offensive coordinator for the Wisconsin Badgers. He was previously the offensive coordinator at Kansas University (2024), Baylor University and Brigham Young University (BYU), Louisiana State University's (LSU) offensive line coach and run game coordinator, and the offensive line coach at both Virginia Tech (2013) and Auburn University. In addition, he was the assistant head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach at the University of Colorado, BYU's offensive line coach, offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Arizona State University (ASU), and offensive line coach at Boise State University (BSU) (2000).
Rhett Lashlee is an American college football coach who is the head coach at Southern Methodist University. He previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn University from 2013 to 2016 and offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Miami from 2020 to 2021.
Kurt Roper is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the quarterbacks backs coach at North Carolina State University. Roper was the interim head football coach at University of Colorado Boulder for the final game of the 2018 season. He previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of South Carolina for two seasons. He also served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Florida in 2014 and Duke University for six seasons prior to that. A native of Ames, Iowa, he was starting quarterback for Ardmore (OK) High School, where he led the Tigers to a 1990 state championship. Roper earned three varsity letters as a quarterback and defensive back at Rice before graduating in 1995. He earned a master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1998. His coaching career has been much associated with that of David Cutcliffe.
Rich Skrosky is an American college football coach and former player. He is a senior analyst for Duke. He was hired as head football coach at Elon University for the 2014 season. Skrosky served as an assistant coach at Elon under Pete Lembo from 2006 to 2010. Lembo's tenure brought new success to Elon's football program, which made its first FCS playoff appearance in 2009. Lembo was hired as head coach at Ball State University after the 2010 season. Skrosky joined Lembo's staff as offensive coordinator.
Joseph Brady is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2021. He was a passing game coordinator and wide receiver coach for the LSU Tigers during the 2019 season, winning the Broyles Award for the best assistant coach in college football, and an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints from 2017 to 2018.
Rod Smith is an American football coach and former player who is currently the offensive coordinator at Jacksonville State University. Prior to that, he was an offensive analyst at the University of Virginia. Ryan Walters is an American college football coach and former safety. He played college football for Colorado from 2004 to 2008. He then served as the defensive coordinator for the Missouri Tigers (2018–2020) and on the Illinois Fighting Illini (2021–2022). He was also the head football coach of the Purdue Boilermakers (2023–2024).
Jay Bateman is an American football coach who is currently the defensive coordinator for the Texas A&M Aggies. He was previously the inside linebackers coach for the Florida Gators and the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A former Broyles Award finalist, he has also had assistant coaching stints at Ball State, Army as well as a head coaching stint at Siena from 2000 to 2003.

Brad Cornelsen is a former American football coach and player who is currently the offensive coordinator at Sam Houston State University. He was the former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Virginia Tech from 2016 to 2021.
Kevin Lynch is an American football coach and former player who is the current head coach of the Butler Bulldogs. He played college football for the Franklin Grizzlies and has previously coached for the Indiana Hoosiers, Indianapolis Greyhounds and Ball State Cardinals.
