Joey Stiebing (born August 11, 1961) is a former American basketball coach. He was formerly the head coach for the New Orleans Privateers.

Coaching career

Stiebing started his career as a student assistant for the LSU Tigers. Next he would serve as an assistant coach for Archbishop Shaw High School, where he was promoted to head coach in 1990. Then he would get a job at the University of New Orleans as an assistant coach for the Privateers, a position he held for seven years. [1] On April 8, 1997, he was promoted to be the next head coach for New Orleans. [2] [3] He served as their head coach for four years, compiling a 57–58 record and winning the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2001. [4] [5] However, on March 12, 2001, Stiebing was fired by New Orleans. [6] [7] His next stop would be the Qatar men's national team, where he would coach for four years. [8] Next he would become an assistant coach for Loyola University New Orleans. Then the head coach for the Sichuan Blue Whales in China, leading them to a Chinese National Basketball League (NBL) title in 2013 and promotion to the first-tier Chinese Basketball Association. [1] Then he would be hired as a special assistant for the Southeastern Louisiana Lions. [9]

Personal life

Stiebing earned his BS in distributive education at Louisiana State University in 1985 before earning his MEd degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of New Orleans in 1996. [1]

George "Tic" Price is an American college basketball coach. He last coached the Lamar Cardinals men's basketball team. From 2002 to 2007, he served as head coach at McNeese State. Prior to that, he served as head coach of Memphis and New Orleans. Price's daughter is Sports Illustrated model Chanel Iman, who married NFL wide receiver Sterling Shepard in 2017. He is married to the former Jamie Lynn Simms, and the couple has two children - son, Ryan, a college basketball coach who played for his father at McNeese, and daughter, Chanel. He has three granddaughters - Bella Grace Price, Cali Clay Shepard and Cassie Snow Shepard.

The Privateers were led by eighth-year head coach Mark Slessinger and played their home games at Lakefront Arena as members of the Southland Conference. The team finished the season 19–14 overall and 12–6 in conference play. In conference, they tied for 3rd place with Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana. As the number four seed in Southland Conference tournament, the Privateers defeated Lamar in the first round, Southeastern Louisiana in the second round, and lost to Abilene Christian in the championship finals game. Om March 17, New Orleans received an invitation to the College Insider tournament. Their season ended with an overtime loss to Texas Southern.

They finished the season 26–4, sweeping through the Sun Belt regular season. New Orleans lost in the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference tournament, but received a bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 8 seed in the Midwest region. The Privateers would lose in the opening round to No. 9 seed Xavier, 73–55.

The 1995–96 New Orleans Privateers men's basketball team represented the University of New Orleans during the 1995–96 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Privateers led by second-year head coach Tic Price, played their home games at Lakefront Arena and played as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 21–9, sweeping through the Sun Belt regular season. New Orleans lost in the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference tournament, but received a bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 11 seed in the East region. The Privateers would lose in the opening round to No. 6 seed North Carolina, 83–62.
