Christopher Kyle Ogden (born October 16, 1980) [1] is an American college basketball coach who is the currently an assistant coach at Texas. [2] He was previously the head coach at UT Arlington. [3] [4]

Playing career

Ogden was a four-year player at Texas from 1999 to 2003, playing for Rick Barnes where he was a member of four NCAA tournament teams, and graduated as the school's all-time winningest player, as he was a part of 97 wins. [1] [5]

Coaching career

While completing his undergraduate studies, Ogden assumed a student assistant role, and move into various administrative roles for Texas until 2008, when he was elevated to assistant coach. [1] He remained on staff with Barnes through 2015, and followed Barnes to Tennessee as an assistant coach for the 2015–2016 season. [6] Ogden returned to his home state as an assistant coach under Chris Beard at Texas Tech for two seasons. [7]

On April 6, 2018, Ogden was named the eighth head coach in UT Arlington basketball history, replacing Scott Cross. [4] [8]

Ogden returned to his alma mater in 2021 as an assistant under Beard, who took the Texas job on April 1.

He was a manager at Texas under former Longhorns coach Tom Penders, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology. He received a Masters of Education from Abilene Christian University where he served as a graduate assistant in 1998.

The Mavericks, led by 12th-year head coach Scott Cross, played their home games at the College Park Center as members of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 21–13, 10–8 in Sun Belt play to finish in fourth place. They defeated Appalachian State and Louisiana to advance to the championship game of the Sun Belt tournament where they lost to Georgia State. Despite having 21 wins, they did not participate in a postseason tournament.

The 2018–19 UT Arlington Mavericks men's basketball team represented the University of Texas at Arlington during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mavericks, led by first-year head coach Chris Ogden, played their home games at the College Park Center as members of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 17–16, 12–6 in Sun Belt play to finish a three-way tie for second place. As the No. 2 seed in the Sun Belt tournament, they defeated Georgia Southern in the semifinals before losing to Georgia State in the championship.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022–23 Western Athletic Conference men's basketball season</span> Sports season

The 2022–23 WAC men's basketball season began with practices in October 2022 followed by the start of the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November 2022. The conference began play in December 2022. This is the WAC's 61st season of basketball. The WAC will compete again with 13 teams with two teams leaving the conference and two teams joining the conference from the prior year. Chicago State turned independent and Lamar moved to the Southland Conference. Southern Utah University joins from the Big Sky Conference and UT Arlington joins from the Sun Belt Conference. Dixie State was also renamed as Utah Tech. Each WAC member will play an 18-game conference schedule. The WAC tournament will be held March 6–11, 2023 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
