John Ahlers

John Ahlers is the television play-by-play announcer for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League on Victory+. [1] He has also served as an announcer for Poker Royale on the Game Show Network. [2]

A Michigan State University graduate, Ahlers early broadcasting career consisted of stints with the Michigan State Spartans and Colorado College Tigers men's hockey teams and professionally with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles and the Louisville IceHawks. [3]

Ahlers spent five seasons as the television and radio voice of the Detroit Vipers. During that time, he also called the IHL Game of Week and Turner Cup Finals for Fox Sports Net. While with the Vipers he received the IHL Broadcaster of the Year award in 1995 and Emmys for Best Sports Broadcasts in 1995 and 1998. [3]

In 1999, Ahlers joined the Tampa Bay Lightning where he served as the radio play-by-play voice until 2002. He also hosted the Lightning's television pre-game show and Lightning Weekly, a magazine format program aired on the Sunshine Network.

Ahlers joined the Ducks television broadcasts for the 2002–03 NHL season, partnering with longtime Ducks color commentator Brian Hayward. [4] In 2003, he won the Emmy for Best Live Sports Broadcast during Game 4 against the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. [5] He also served as an announcer for occasional NHL games on Versus.

In 2005, Ahlers became the permanent host of GSN's Poker Royale. [6] He hosted six tournaments in the series before the show ended in December 2005. He joined Sports USA in 2012 as a college football announcer. [7]

The Detroit Vipers were a professional ice hockey team who competed in the International Hockey League (IHL). Originally founded in Salt Lake City as the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in 1969, the team was purchased by Palace Sports & Entertainment and relocated to Auburn Hills, Michigan in 1994. During their first five seasons, the Vipers enjoyed success as they secured 100 points each time and appeared in the Turner Cup Finals twice, winning once in 1997.

The 1993–94 NHL season was the 77th regular season of the National Hockey League. The league expanded to 26 teams with the addition of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Florida Panthers. The Minnesota North Stars relocated to become the Dallas Stars. And the league was realigned to geographically-named conferences and divisions. The New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games to become the Stanley Cup champions. It was the Rangers' fourth championship overall, and their first in 54 seasons, since 1939–40.

Bradley William Shaw is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL) in the fifth round, 86th overall, in the 1982 NHL entry draft and played as a defenceman for the Hartford Whalers, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues in the NHL. He was a member of the 1989 NHL All-Rookie Team and twice won the Eddie Shore Award as the American Hockey League's best defenceman. Mark Fitzpatrick is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He moved to Kitimat, British Columbia, where he started minor hockey, when he was ten years old. He won the Memorial Cup twice as a member of the Medicine Hat Tigers before going on to a professional career with the Los Angeles Kings, New York Islanders, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.

He played left wing and shot left-handed. He appeared in 1,000 professional hockey games and won the Memorial Cup of the Canadian Hockey League, the Calder Cup of the American Hockey League and was on the runner up teams for both the Turner Cup of the IHL and Stanley Cup and the NHL.
