John Jackson Sparkman was an American jurist and politician from the state of Alabama. A Southern Democrat,Sparkman served in the United States House of Representatives from 1937 to 1946 and the United States Senate from 1946 until 1979. He was the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president in the 1952 presidential election.

Thomas Timothy Holden is an American politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Democratic U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 17th congressional district from 1993 to 2013. Holden was the dean of the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation during the 112th United States Congress. On April 24,2012,Holden was defeated in the Democratic primary in his attempt to seek re-election after the boundaries of his district were redrawn. He is now chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
Pennsylvania is generally considered a swing state that leans slightly left. Throughout its entire history,it voted for the nationwide loser on only 10 occasions,meaning it has voted for the national winner 83% of the time as of 2024. Although,it generally supported Republicans between the Civil War and New Deal eras,as it voted Republican in every election between 1860 and 1932,except for 1912,when the Republican vote was split. Even then,the state's strong Republican ties meant that it backed Republican-turned-Progressive Theodore Roosevelt. The state backed a Democrat in 1936 for the first time since 1856. Pennsylvania generally leaned Democratic since the 1990s,as it backed the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1992 except in 2016 and 2024,when it was won by Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Sharif Street is an American politician and attorney. He is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania State Senate who has represented the 3rd district since 2017. Basil Ivanhoe Gooden is an American governmental executive whose career has advanced equitable food systems,agriculture policy,public health,and community economic development in rural America. Gooden served as the 3rd Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the cabinet of Governor Terry McAuliffe. He became the first Black American to serve in this position and during his tenure from September 2016 until January 2018,he was the only Black American Secretary of Agriculture in any state in the United States. In his capacity as Secretary,he provided strategic vision and leadership to two of Virginia's largest private industries,Agriculture and Forestry,with an annual economic impact of $91 billion on the Commonwealth.
