John Blake (born August 1,1960) is an American politician from Pennsylvania,United States,who served as a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 22nd District from 2011 to 2021. [2] He is currently the District Director and Senior Economic Development Specialist for Congressman Matt Cartwright. [3]
Blake received a bachelor's degree from Villanova University while playing on the school's football team. He also received a master's in social work from Marywood College and a master's in business administration from the University of Scranton.
He also completed Executive Education in Public Management at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. [1]
Blake began working in housing policy as director of the Lackawanna County Redevelopment Authority. Prior to entering electoral politics,he also held a two-year fellowship position under the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development,a job as vice president for community development with PNC Bank,and an appointment as the Ed Rendell administration's director of policy for Northeastern Pennsylvania. On February 15,2021,Blake resigned from the Pennsylvania Senate to take a position leading economic development from Congressman Matt Cartwright. [4]

Thomas Timothy Holden is an American politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Democratic U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 17th congressional district from 1993 to 2013. Holden was the dean of the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation during the 112th United States Congress. On April 24,2012,Holden was defeated in the Democratic primary in his attempt to seek re-election after the boundaries of his district were redrawn. He is now chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
Pennsylvania is generally considered a swing state that leans slightly left. Throughout its entire history,it voted for the nationwide loser on only 10 occasions,meaning it has voted for the national winner 83% of the time as of 2024. Although,it generally supported Republicans between the Civil War and New Deal eras,as it voted Republican in every election between 1860 and 1932,except for 1912,when the Republican vote was split. Even then,the state's strong Republican ties meant that it backed Republican-turned-Progressive Theodore Roosevelt. The state backed a Democrat in 1936 for the first time since 1856. Cartwright was first elected to Congress in 2012 after defeating incumbent Tim Holden in the Democratic primary. Basil Ivanhoe Gooden is an American governmental executive whose career has advanced equitable food systems,agriculture policy,public health,and community economic development in rural America. Gooden served as the 3rd Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the cabinet of Governor Terry McAuliffe. He became the first Black American to serve in this position and during his tenure from September 2016 until January 2018,he was the only Black American Secretary of Agriculture in any state in the United States. In his capacity as Secretary,he provided strategic vision and leadership to two of Virginia's largest private industries,Agriculture and Forestry,with an annual economic impact of $91 billion on the Commonwealth.
